Be Here Now
Be present in the present. We've heard it, we've practiced it. "As we move into the fall, our energy wanes, and we're triggered more easily. Learning to be in the present moment enables us to cultivate awareness of our emotions and make choices that foster our resilience," quotes Elena Aguilar in her book, Onward (2018, p. 125.) Let's work to be mindful this month. Aguilar describes being mindful as non-judgmental, like hitting an internal pause button. She highlights teachers who practice mindfulness as experiencing lower levels of stress, finding greater efficacy in their jobs and having more emotionally supportive and organized classrooms (129.)Take time to breathe, to reflect on our first month of school together. Intentionally schedule time in your day dedicated to finding that quiet space, that moment of peace. We have so much to offer our students and commit 100% of ourselves to our kiddos every day. Take time for you. What are you going to do with today? What are you going to do with your 28, 835 days?

From the Office
- Please remind homeroom kiddos that they are to go to the playground when they get off of the bus in the morning. If you are supervising the D.O. Entrance, please move to the main office doors to help supervise that area and encourage students to go to the playground. Thank you!
- At the end of the day, please send your students directly to the bus. Students are stopping to visit and hug former teachers before boarding the bus and are in risk of missing the bus!! We love hugs, but the stealth-like sprint on the sidewalk to catch the bus at 3:04 is meant for a track meet!
- Send your students down to the office for birthdays following announcements! Note: I will be at the Title One Conference next week Wednesday-Friday.
- On Thursday, October 3rd, Paynesville Schools will be testing our new phone and text message communication system. On this date, you should receive an email from our messaging system, a text message to your mobile phone number, and a voice call. The content of the message will be: "This is test of Paynesville Area Schools emergency communication system. Thank you." If you do not receive a message, please contact the school office to update your contact information. This system will be used in the future for school closing and/or emergencies.
- CherryDale Fundraising will end Monday, October 14. This is a change due to conferences/no school the 10th and 11th. Please update classroom newsletters. Thank you!

Paynesville Area Schools Celebrate National School Lunch Week
“School Lunch Playlist” highlights #NSLW19
(Paynesville, MN) – September 24, 2019 – To recognize the National School Lunch Program, serving 30 million children each day, Paynesville Area Schools will celebrate National School Lunch Week from October 14-18, 2019. The theme, “School Lunch: What’s on Your Playlist,” spotlights how today’s school cafeterias are serving up healthy menu items that kids want to eat, with increased choice and customization.
National School Lunch Week will highlight the nutritious foods available daily at Paynesville Area Schools. 5th Grade students will name menu items each day; we are also hoping to provide musical entertainment during each day's lunch. Paynesville Area Schools' Food Service Program will join the efforts of our National Farm to School Month by providing apples for National Crunch Day, a day where students across the country bite into an apple at exactly the same time. The nation-wide date is October10th; due to conferences the event will be held at Paynesville Area Elementary October 14th at 1:25. Please encourage your child to wear green or red for the event.
“School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium,” said Laurie Nepsund, Food Service Head Cook. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the benefits of our lunch program and the appealing variety of choices in the cafeteria.”
