FAC Weekly Update

August 20, 2020

Good afternoon, Fine Arts Center Family!

This is the Fine Arts Center Director, Mr. Popat, with the FAC Weekly Update.

Preparations for the 2020-2021 School Year are nearly complete, and we are beyond excited for the return of our students to the FAC! Please read on for information that is critical for the start of the school year.

This Week's Student Leadership Lesson

For those new to the FAC, our Weekly Updates will always include a leadership lesson for our students to reflect upon. We'll start the school year with two quotes from the great stoic, Marcus Aurelius...

The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.”

You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”

Informational Videos

Since we cannot host an in-person orientation at the FAC, we have created videos and a presentation to help you and your child prepare for the school year.

  • Please go to our YouTube channel - FAC YouTube. We uploaded our Orientation Video, plus a video tour of the FAC and videos covering Health Considerations and Bus Transportation.

  • Click on the following link to view the Orientation Presentation PDF that accompanies the Orientation Video on our YouTube Channel - 2020-21 Orientation Presentation

  • All Faculty have uploaded greetings for their students on their respective teacher websites. This is covered in the Orientation Video. Please view these videos first, and then if you have any specific questions about the first day/week of school, contact the appropriate person. Specific subject-area questions should go to the Faculty, and building-level questions can be fielded by our Main Office.

New Website!

In our efforts to continually improve the presentation of our school to the community, we have undergone a redesign of our website. Please click on the following link and bookmark it in your browser so that you can easily find us.

The old website link is still active, but for quicker service, please save the above link.

Requirements for the Start of the School Year

The following tasks were emailed to all students and parents. For your convenience, we have them linked below. If you have not already done so, please complete these by tomorrow, August 21.

  • Immunization Forms - required by all NEW students who are home-schooled or from outside of the GCS District. Please click on the following link for more information - Immunization Requirements.

As always, please call or email with any questions!

First Day of School

The School start date is August 24 for all students. We are starting the school year in Attendance Plan 1. Every student should know his/her color group and the days of in-person attendance for Attendance Plan 1. Color groups were assigned based on the first letter of students’ last name (hyphenated last names were alphabetized by the first of the hyphenated names: ex. Jones-Smith would be alphabetized under J)

Under Attendance Plan 1, students are in-person one day per week on their assigned day and are attending school virtually the other four days. Students will be expected to sign in and complete assignments on eLearning days. Otherwise, they will be counted absent.
