November News from Library Land
Book Fair is Here!
The book fair arrived today and will be in full force Nov. 13-21. All classes will have an assigned time to shop. Students may visit other times with their teachers' permission. There is an online fair as well if you don't have time to drop by and shop or would like to give family and friends the chance to shop for your child. Remember books make great gifts. If you shop online and the order is a secret gift for your child please let me know otherwise I will send the books home with your child. They will arrive at the school after Dec. 2 but before the Christmas break.
Fall Reading Challenge
All the elementary schools in the district are currently participating in the Fall Reading Challenge. Your child brought home a sheet with 11 leaves and reading activities. Students are asked to complete 7 of the 11 activities to earn a special fall reading charm for their necklaces. If they complete all 11 activities they will earn a free book as well as a charm. The main goal is to encourage more recreational reading by students. The school with the highest percentage of participation as of Dec. 5 will be declared the winning school. That school will draw a participating student and their family to earn a $80 gift certificate to HEB! Martin Walker wants to win!!!1
Books and Beyond
Students in grades K-2 are reading and storming the castle in the library. Students are encouraged to read daily and record their books. When they have read 24 books they may turn their reading logs into the library to earn charms for their necklaces. Since the emphasis is a quality reading experience over quantity only one reading log per week will be accepted. When students reach 120, 240, and 360 books they will receive reading medals at the Top Dawg Assemblies.
