The Boys Who Challenged Hitler
By Phillip Hoose
Summary
The Boys Who Challenged Hitler was about a group of teenage boys who did not like the Germans occupying Denmark. No one in Denmark was doing anything about the Germans occupying their homeland, so, Knud and his brother gathered some friends from their school. They all had a common hatred of Hitler and his troops, thus, they formed the Churchill Club. The Churchill Club sabotaged everything that the German troops owned. They sabotaged things such as factories, vehicles, and German outposts. They defaced things of the Germans and stole their weapons. The Churchill Club eventually gets caught in the act of stealing weapons and have to serve multiple years in prison. After they got out of prison, the war was almost over and the Germans were retreating from Denmark. There is plenty of celebration all around Denmark and Knud gets to meet Winston Churchill, the man who he named the club after.
Quote From The Book
"All day long German soldiers poured into Odense and other cities by boat, plane, tank, and transport wagon. Ordinary German foot soldiers of the German defense force--the Wehrmacht--wore brownish-green uniforms with black hobnail boots and rounded green helmets. Well prepared, they quickly took over the town, setting up barracks and command centers in hotels, factories, and schools. They pounded German-language directional signs into public squares and strung miles of telephone lines between headquarters, operation centers, and barracks. By the end of the day, there were sixteen thousand Germans on Danish soil and Germany was in total control."
Why we chose this video:
We chose this video because it explains what happened in the book really well without giving too much of the book away. It sounds like a trailer to a movie which was really interesting.
