January Newsletter

Principal's Message

Dear Families, Friends and Community,

Welcome back!

As we enter the month of January, our students will be involved in end-of-quarter testing. The district assessments include the content areas of English/Language Arts, Math, and Science. The testing window runs from Tuesday, January 4 to Thursday, January 13.

In October, per the Third Grade Reading Guarantee, grade 3 students across the state took the English/Language Arts Test which measures student progress toward the State of Ohio Academic Content Standards. The standards describe what your child should know and be able to do by the end of each grade. By meeting or surpassing grade level expectations, students will be on track for continued success beyond third grade.

The results are in...58% of our grade 3 students (11/19) scored at the established performance level or above! Four (4) students scored at the Advanced level, three (3) students scored at the Accomplished level, four (4) students scored at the Basic level and eight (8) students just missed meeting the established performance level...being that close we can taste victory! Our grade 3 students will have a second opportunity in the spring to take the test and improve their scores. Please join me in congratulating the grade 3 students for doing their best. They are an exemplary group of global learners!

Finally, as we enter the third grading period, let's make sure we all continue to build a school community that recognizes the greatness of each child that defines the AEA Strongsville Campus. After all, young people need a vibrant learning community in order to achieve their dreams.

Go Rockets!

There were approximately 350 individual pieces on display throughout the school. The expression of art included drawing, painting, collage, ceramics, 3D sculpture and printmaking. A special THANK YOU to the following students and staff that helped to create the gallery experience; Hannah Blanco, Rick Brewer, Ella Crawford, Evan Downey, Collin Egner, Ryland Emling, Noah Garman, Rafael Gaud, Corbin Henry, Carlos Santos, Ms. Delaat, Ms. Gadoury, Ms. Gray, Ms. Kimmet and Mr. Stevanus...JOB WELL DONE!

We will definitely look to schedule additional family nights in the coming months.

Final Thought: AEA SV Teachers

A team of instructional leaders that provide consistent substantive, specific and timely feedback to students and families with respect to student learning. They provide opportunities for students to engage in self-assessment in order to show awareness of their own strengths, learning styles and areas for improvement. They utilize student assessment results to reflect on their own teaching methodologies in direct support of student growth and success. They are current, intentional and flexible with providing instructional support plans to students that struggle with content learning, organization, participation, attendance and a lack of personal confidence within the classroom...failure is not an option.

They are a compelling team!
