Mike McGinnis receives President's Award at MAAP Conference
I know that I do not just speak for myself when I say it is a privilege to know Mike McGinnis. Mike has had a long and amazing career serving the recovery community and the educational programs in many communities. Mike has been working with students within schools for the past 25 years. He has the ability to build relationships with students that last beyond high school. Families depend on Mike to offer support when they are dealing with issues of recovery for their children or other family members. Mike speaks from his heart, and his heart is huge. When you have an opportunity to work with Mike you know that he is invested and has a deep commitment to the support he provides. He has an uncanny memory for every life he has touched and no matter where you are that is proven by the number of people who have to stop, say hello and to thank him over and over.
Mike has been a tremendous resource not only in the Mankato area, but throughout the State. Mike has volunteered at numerous MAAP events and has been a presenter at Regional Conferences, MAAP 101 Conferences and State Conferences on numerous occasions. Mike is extremely knowledgeable and sensitive to the implications and ramifications of addiction and chemical abuse, however he often makes an attempt to “lighten the mood” with appropriately placed humor. When you enter a discussion with Mike, you better be ready to attain some knowledge that is sprinkled with a little laughter. This award could not go to a more deserving, passionate, committed member of our alternative education community.
