February 17th-21st

Thank you to everyone for helping make our Valentine's Day party a success. I think the kids had a lot of fun, and hopefully there wasn't too much of a sugar-high when they got home...we tried to keep them at bay! I must say, having 18 valentines is pretty special.

This Week in 123

Yesterday we celebrated our 100TH DAY OF KINDERGARTEN! Wow! What an accomplishment for these smart kids!

In reading this week, we are starting a new literature book, Uno, Dos, Tres, One, Two, Three, and reviewing some of our comprehension strategies: making predictions and drawing conclusions. We are also introducing a new high-frequency word: puts. Our vocabulary word for this week is "fine". We will also review vocabulary from last week, "country" and "symbol". Our inquiry project for the week will help us answer the question, "What are some U.S. symbols?"

In Math we will explore the number grid and look for patterns in that, we will practice some more with addition and subtraction number stories, and we will have an introduction to the penny.

Our theme for yesterday was 100, with it being the 100th day of school. We made some head bands, did a writing activity, and played "Race to 100" with a partner. The rest of the week we will be talking about presidents and our country's flag.

Exciting Things!

The links below are our puppet shows from last week's inquiry and research! Thanks to Mrs. Garvey and a few 6th grade helpers for recording us.
