Davenport's Weekly Update
Week of May 16th, 2021
Message from the Principal
Greetings,
“Finish Strong. It’s a motto, a mantra, a massive call to action” — Gary Ryan Blair
We are in the final stretch of the school year. With few weeks remaining, the goals remain the same; to improve student achievement, support climate, culture and #EHTPride, and expand community partnerships. Though it was a rocky start, we continue to uplift and fulfill the district goals set before us. Day by Day we are a step in the right direction. We TRULY appreciate the support and dedication from every staff, student, and parent connected to the Davenport Family! Let us continue to “Finish Strong”.
We certainly enjoyed some beautiful weather this week, which allowed our children to have more classes outdoors. In the next month, we will be planning some fun outdoor activities for them as we close this very unusual school year and begin to plan for the 2021-22 school year. As we plan activities for the remaining school year, we will keep you informed so your child will be prepared for all events.
Last but not least, join us as we celebrate our 2020-21 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Christina Hampton, and Educational Service Professional, Mrs. Regina Budd, who were recognized at the BOE meeting on May 18th. It was lovely and family members were able to attend and show their pride.
Parents/Guardians, please be reminded of the following:
- We have four (4) abbreviated days remaining in this year's calendar--May 28, June 14, 15 &16. Dismissal will be at 2:06 pm. Parent pick-up will begin at 1:45pm.
- Be reminded that for the safety of the student, no flip flops or open back shoes should be worn. Policy #5511
- As the days continue to warm up, we are encouraging the students to bring a water bottle to school for outdoor activities.
As always, please feel free to contact the school with any questions, comments, or concerns.
Until next time,
Have a good week!

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Butterflies Galore!
Mrs. Lopusan's 1st grade class was learning about the butterfly life cycle when one of her students gave her own personal spin on the topic by coordinating her butterfly outfit with their lesson.
Exploring Other Languages
Library Fun
This week students in Mrs. Cavileer's Primary library class finished their fable unit on "The Three Little Pigs" story. After learning all about the fable sections in the library and the ingredients of a fable, students ended with an engaging and fun STEM project. They also had to design and create a house for one of the three little pigs. Their goal was to engineer a house from straws or sticks using playdough as "glue". Students were asked to blow on their house to see if it would remain standing. They discussed the word "perseverance", and not giving up. If the house fell down they would evaluate it, make changes, and try again. Students learned many life skills, as well as had tons of fun!
