BLAS Food for Kids Backpack Program

Basehor-Linwood Assistance Services (BLAS) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing a variety of emergency services for residents of the Basehor-Linwood school district. These services may include utility payments, food, school supplies, and holiday assistance. All requests are confidential. Those needing assistance may call the BLAS at (913) 406-9856 and leave a message. The BLAS coordinator will return your call.

The BLAS Food for Kids Backpack Program is available once again this year. The Backpack program provides a weekly bag filled with food for elementary aged school children that are in need. BLAS delivers the bags each week to GRAY HAWK and then OUR counselor Miss Hubbard distributes the bags on Friday. This program is fully-funded through community donations and the number of participants is limited based on the donations received. There is no cost to participate in the program.

Please keep sending in your family pictures. I have received seven but we have far more new families than that. Please continue to send these in so that we may get them on display. Please send them to Dr. Springer at dspringer@usd458.org. Dr. Springer will place it on the Family Wall.

OUR FAMILIES are why we are here and we want to celebrate you. If you are not new to GRAY HAWK but you never turned in a picture, please do so.

Attendance Matters

A little bit more difficult week for attendance this week between students being sick and folks leaving for an extended break for Labor Day.

Congratulations to OUR grade levels that stayed at or above 96% this week: Kindergarten, 5th grade, and OUR GHES Staff. Despite only have three groups make OUR attendance goal this week, I am proud to announce that so far all groups cumulatively are above OUR 96% goal. Keep it up!

"What to Do About Increasing Dysregulation in Early Grades" - Article

Please check out this outstanding article that appeared in Edutopia this week. We are seeing dysregulation more and more in younger and younger children and this article offers validataion of what we are seeing and some suggestions for additional strategies. (Please know that though we are seeing dysregulation in younger and younger children, that does not dismiss the dysregulation we are seeing in our older students.)

Help Raise Funds by Volunteering at HS Concessions

Please check out the Sign Up Genius below if you are able to help out one day at the high school for the concession stand. It goes by very quickly and is a great community builder.

Working the concession at BLHS is so much fun!!! You take orders, make popcorn/hotdogs/nachos and keep things stocked. Very easy and simple but we can't do it without volunteers!

We will meet at the outside football concession stand at the high school.
