Writer's Wordshop Joins World Wide Poetry Movement
[Harrisburg, PA] On Friday, September 26th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM the Midtown Scholar Bookstore will host Nathaniel Gadsden’s Writers’ Wordshop’s 37th Anniversary Celebration. Performance poet and author, Maria James-Thiaw, who got her start as an emerging poet in the Writers’ Wordshop in 1998, will M.C. the program. The free event will feature performances by the areas most talented poetic voices and musicians.
The event coincides with the annual 100,000 Poet’s For Change, a global poetic movement advocating for political, social, environmental and economic change. As part of the 100,000 Poet’s For Change, Nathaniel Gadsden’s Writer’s Wordshop will collect donations to support the Mental Health Association of the Capital Region. This non-profit organization helps spread awareness to de-stigmatize mental illness.
“I look forward to celebrating the powerful influence that Nathaniel Gadsden’s Writers Wordshop has had on generations of poets in the Harrisburg Area and beyond,” says poet, Maria James-Thiaw. “When you think about all of the published authors, performers, story tellers and poet laureates that have emerged from that space, it is easy to see why the Wordshop continues to live on.”
