Principal for a Day-Reading Contest
A Principal for a Day reading contest will begin on March 1st thru March 31st (following week is the state Reading test). The student that logs the most time spent reading, with a parent signature, will get to be Principal for a Day on Friday, April 7th. The job of Principal for a Day will include but not be limited to: morning announcements, parent voice shot, dressing nice, birthday cards, kindness ninja photographer, missing class, carrying around a walkie-talkie and saying things like “copy, 10-4”, free lunch of choice, access to soda machine, and other very important tasks and responsibilities. There will also be prizes for 2nd and 3rd place readers.
Here is the reading log that will be used for the month and will replace any other reading log your child maybe using. A copy will be provided to your child the day the contest begins. Happy reading!!

ELA Grades 3-5: April 5 and 6
Math Grades 3-5: May 2 and 3
Fourth Grade Social Studies: May 5
Fifth Grade Science: May 5
Testing will begin promptly at 9:30.

Kiwanis "Read Around the World Event"
The Kiwanis Club of Strongsville is sponsoring its annual "Read around the World Event" program on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM at the Strongsville Community Library. Members of Kiwanis believe that the sooner a child gets interested in reading, the better the chance they have for success in school.
The program and its activities are intended for Pre-school and K – 3rd graders. There is NO ADMISSION CHARGE for children and their accompanying adult (parent, grandparent, etc.).
Cookies and beverage will be available.
Children will be free to “browse” and “check out” our huge inventory of children’s books
Students from St. Joe's & John's Elementary, Strongsville Middle School and Strongsville High School will be available to read to your child from a book the child selects from our inventory of children's books.
Mr. Protiva, librarian in the children’s section, will be reading a couple brief children’s stories. He is outstanding!
St. Joe’s & John’s students will be performing short skits based on children’s stories.
Strongsville Middle School students will be “face painting” throughout the morning
Appearances of several characters from children’s literature in costumes.
Finally, each child can pick out his/her favorite new book to TAKE HOME!!!
Again, all of the above is FREE!!!
By the way, there will be applications for any adults who wish to become a member of the Kiwanis Club of Strongsville.
