Information For Pathfinder Families / August 29th

----------------------------------------------------------

Thank You!

We would like to extend a big THANK YOU to our Pathfinder families for making our first week a very successful one. Thanks for having patience with us as we navigated transportation changes, and worked to establish a lot of our processes. Our teachers did a great job of building relationships with their students and creating a positive classroom environment. We realize visitors are limited this school year, but we plan to provide you with a snapshot of the learning taking place through pictures, Facebook posts, Twitter, and our website. If you have not visited any of these sites we encourage you to get connected with us!

Coaching Support At Pathfinder / Instructional Coach and Behavior Coach

We wanted to make sure our families knew of two supports that we have available at Pathfinder for our staff and students. We are fortunate to have an instructional coach, Mrs. Mindy Wheeler, and also a behavior coach, Mr. Kevin Wellington. Below is a quick description of their roles and how they support our school.

Mindy Wheeler / Instuctional Coach

As an instructional coach, I get the delight and pleasure to work with all teachers and students at Pathfinder. My purpose is to work directly with teachers to help meet their instructional goals in the classroom. This may look like helping teach, meeting with small groups in the room, or watching from the side. Our teachers are constantly growing and I am simply there to assist them in that journey.

Kevin Wellington / Behavior Coach

Hello my name is Kevin Wellington and I am the behavior coach here at Pathfinder. My job here at school is to support teachers and students to promote a positive classroom environment and school wide behavior. I work with staff to help students in the area of behavior and social emotional learning. I get the opportunity to be in classrooms to support tier one classroom management, but also work with teachers and students who may need additional support.

Meal Services (Breakfast and Lunch)

What's for lunch? How much is lunch? Can my child bring his or her lunch? Please read this section and you will have all of those questions answered!

Meal Payment:

The District has been approved to serve free meals throughout the entire school year to ALL students regardless of meal status.

If you think you may qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch, please fill out the form linked here, so that you are covered when this free program ends. This form is not required to receive the free meals under this waiver, but helps us assist families in various other ways.

Breakfast:

Breakfast services are a grab and go format. Students will come into the lunchroom from either riding the bus or our car rider line. They will grab a sacked breakfast and take it to their classroom to eat. Again, this meal service is free to all students.

Lunch:

Students will have three lunch choices each day. They will make their choice in the classroom when they arrive in the morning. Students also have the option to bring their lunch from home. Students will not be able to share food amongst classmates. All students will have 25 minutes to eat their lunch. At this time we are not allowing any visitiors for lunch. If your child would like an extra milk they will be charged for these items.

* Below you will find our breakfast and lunch menus. These can always be found on our district website.

Signs of Suicide (SOS) Prevention Program; Parent IgNIGHT - August 31

The adolescent years are marked by a roller-coaster ride of emotions-difficult for students and their parents. It is easy to misread depression as normal adolescent turmoil; however, depression (among the most common of mental illnesses) appears to be occurring at a much earlier age. Depression-which is treatable-is a leading risk factor for suicide. To proactively address these issues, Platte County School District offers depression awareness and suicide prevention training as a part of the Signs of Suicide (SOS) Prevention Program. Middle and high school buildings will be conducting this program with students in September-November. On August 24, families were emailed a letter regarding this program. If you do NOT wish for your child to participate in the SOS Program, please complete THIS FORM.

Parents are invited to join us for a virtual Parent IgNIGHT on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 6:30pm to learn about the program. Click here to join the webinar on August 31. Parents will learn the components of this program, and will be provided skills to continue conversations with our students to proactively address these issues, and engage as partners in suicide prevention.

Text Notifications

The District uses text messaging and automated phone calls to notify parents of upcoming events and days off, school closings due to weather, and during emergency situations. Newly enrolled families will automatically receive an opt-in message from 67587. If you missed it, simply text “Yes” to 67587 to receive text messages.

2021-22 Substitutes Needed

A vital part of our continuous improvement efforts in the Platte County School District is to recruit and retain high quality staff. This extends to our substitutes that we utilize through out the school year. We are currently recruiting substitutes throughout our school district for the 2021-22 school year. If you are wanting to gain additional information please visit the following site:

Platte County School District Substitute Information

Substitute Teacher pay is $105.00 a day or $14.00 an hour. A full day for a Substitute Teacher is 7.5 hours a day. If a Substitute Teacher works 6.5 hours a day they are paid the full $105.00. If a Substitute works less than 6.5 hours a day, they are paid hourly.

Pathfinder Resource Checklist

Hello Pirate Families! At the beginning and middle of each school year, we ask parents and guardians to fill out our Resource Checklist on paper. This year we are asking you to complete the Resource Checklist electronically using this form. This brief questionnaire is your School Social Worker's first and primary way to help you access support services. It also lets us know if you are interested in giving back to your school community. Please do not hesitate to contact your School Social Worker if you have any questions.
