FSC Principal's Update

February 4, 2022

Finneytown Families,

This was Cincinnati weather at its finest this week. Hopefully all of you are safe, have power, and are staying warm! I never really know whether to believe that a storm is coming or not but they definitely were spot on with this one.

We had a great week at school prior to the winter storm celebrating the Bengals and our own HS girls basketball team. They had senior night Wednesday and we honored the following seniors: Hailey Rozier, Briona Alcorn, and Erin Ruth. Thanks to these three ladies for being the leaders that they are on the court and in the school. All three will be missed next year! Thanks also to our pep band for coming to the game and rocking it!

Please look at the testing letters that are linked below. On testing days, only students who test will come at the normal start time. Students not testing will begin their day at 10:00.

If you have any questions, please reach out.

Staff Spotlight (Jill Parker and Lara Walker)

Although they are often mistaken for each other (rightfully so--they are both housed in the library, have similar hair color/hairstyles, glasses, last names that end in -er, and have helpful dispositions), Ms. Parker and Ms. Walker are actually two different people who are not even related!

Ms. Parker, who is on the left in each of these photos, is the Secondary Campus ESL (English as a Second Language) Coordinator. She is with Hamilton County ESC and has been stationed in Finneytown for nine years, along with Mariemont and North College Hill. Ms. Parker is married to an ESL teacher, and they have one son at Ohio State. In her free time, she’s an adjunct faculty member at Xavier University. When she’s not working, she’s out running all the miles.

On the right is Ms. Walker (coincidentally not related to Mr. Walker, one of our Assistant Principals), and she is the Secondary Campus library media specialist. Ms. Walker was born and raised in Canada (a very small town in Northern Ontario) and graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts in English & History and a Bachelor of Education. Ms. Walker taught English for 2 years in Medellin, Colombia, and met her husband there. When he moved back to Cincinnati, she joined him, and they were married within a few months. He already had 3 sons, and they had a daughter together, Olivia, who is now a junior studying Publishing at Belmont University in Nashville. Ms. Walker did a lot of subbing before & after Olivia was born, but her favorite gig was a maternity leave in the library at Mariemont High School. When Olivia was in preschool, Ms. Walker decided to go back to school and pursue a Master’s in Library and Information Science so that she could be a library media specialist. She has been at Finneytown for the past 15 years and can’t imagine doing anything more fulfilling. In her spare time, Ms. Walker loves to read (duh), travel, and laugh until her stomach hurts with her family and friends.
