It's feeling like fall y'all!
A HUGE shout out to Mrs. Higgs and Mrs. Woodard for pulling off a very successful Book Fair last week! Their hard work is so appreciated because the students really enjoyed getting to shop for books. I also want to thank Ms. Dodson and Mrs. Scarbrough for being so flexible with their schedules to help Mrs. Higgs out with supervision of the 4th grade library during this event. #teamwork
We have several things going on this week that I want to make sure you are all aware of.
It's Red Ribbon Week. There is a different theme for each day and I really hope that you all participate! It is so fun for the students to see you all joining in and it models for them how participation is important.
On Tuesday, we will have guest speakers in the cafeteria. Mira Smith has sent you that schedule. It is also "Dinner with the Orchestra" from 5-8pm at the SHS cafeteria.
On Wednesday, we will have a representative here from the Flippen Group (CKH) to do our follow up Recharge training with our Process Champion Team that was developed last year. Her name is Kate. Technically, this training is for all staff members but there was no way I could get 60+ subs for the day! So to include everyone in this process we have created a "Lunch and Learn" session of this training. How it will work is that during your lunch on Wednesday, you will come to the B building, grab lunch that we will be providing from Tropical Smoothie in the workroom and come over to room 204 to join the Process Champion Team. (We will have water, tea and lemonade to drink but if you want something else feel free to bring it.) During this time, the trainer will share some information with you and you will be able to engage in conversations regarding our CKH process with your peers. It is the best that we could do to include everyone so please put this on your calendar so that you can be treated to this "Lunch and Learn" session! Our trainer will also be giving us some information on National Showcase Schools and things to consider for that. She told me today that it is such an honor to be chosen to apply for that recognition and that we must really be a special group to be offered so early in our process!!! SHE HAS NO IDEA HOW AMAZING YOU ALL ARE! I can't wait to show you off to her! :)
On Friday, we will have our BMX Bike Show for all of the students that reached the fundraising goal of selling at least 5 items. We will get the list to you this week as to who gets to attend this event. It will be in the 5/6 gym at 1:30pm.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday will be grade level meetings after school. I had shared with you last week that Patti will be coming to talk to you about Learn 360 and the upcoming Hour of Code. Please add her to your agenda.
I am finalizing our November 3rd Professional Development day and hope to have that information to you soon.
I know that we are all tired and ready for a nice long break...like Thanksgiving because the weekend just doesn't seem to be enough time!!! I know that it is tough at this time of year to often find the energy and mentality to do the work we do each day but we have to dig deep and push on until that break gets here. It is during this slump that we can lose focus on what our deepest intentions really are because we find ourselves rushing through the moment to just be done with it. If you feel this is happening to you then please pause and regroup right then! Always remember that you are the first example for your students. They already know you well enough to know when you aren't having your best moment so be mindful of that and show them how to recover, regroup and push on! Tell them you need help to get motivated again and turn it into something fun. We have 22 more days until Thanksgiving...let's dig deep and lift each other up!

Things to do:
Give affirmations this week: (don't grumble...they take 2 seconds! ha!)
- a student that is not in your class
- a teacher that is not in your team
- a support staff
Remind the students to use the foul signal anytime they are wanting to "tattle" on someone. Practice doing it with them in class and tell them this is a way for them to stand up for themselves without having to use words, which is hard for many of them.
When dealing with a student that has a daily point sheet be sure to also have positive comments. Remember for every negative there should be 2 positives...let's apply that to those forms too. If we don't, then all the student sees is his negative behavior and will think that is all you see too. If the negative is the only focus then we won't change it.
