Updates from the Principal, Associate Principal and Assistant Director of Pupil Services
A Message from Karin Patenaude, the Principal:
Remote Learning is off to a great start at Greenfield High School and students have settled in to their classes and found their academic grooves! Students and parents/caregivers should have access to PowerSchool to check student grades and any missing assignments; so please be using the app or website to do so. Keep in mind that October 9 is the mid-way point to the first quarter. The first principal and parent/caregiver meetings went really well and I want to thank everyone for joining me. The October meetings are planned (see below) so I hope if you were not able to join us in September that you can make the next meeting. I know there are many kinks still to be ironed out, but please know we are here to help and work with you to conquer any of the challenges students or families face during these times. Please do not hesitate to email me at karpat1@gpsk12.org or call 413-772-1350 x1008.
A Message from Jonathan Cavallo, the Associate Principal:
As the Associate Principal I would like to welcome the Class of 2025 as well as all returning students to the 2020-2021 school year and also extend a warm welcome to those students who are new to Greenfield High School. The start of this school year looks very different from years past, but our expectations for staff and students remain the same. It is extremely important for students to log into their classes each day, participate in their synchronous learning, and complete all assignments. If students do this each day, then they will be successful! I am eagerly looking forward to the day students return to in-person instruction and where our school day will resemble what we are accustomed to seeing. I am always available to help you navigate any educational concern or question you may have. Please do not hesitate to email me at joncav1@gpsk12.or call the school at (413) 772-1350 ext. 1011.
A Message from Sarah Crawford, Assistant Director of Pupil Services:
I hope all of the students at GHS are off to a great start with virtual learning and adjusting to the new routines. For those of you who do not know me, my name is Sarah Crawford and I am an Assistant Director of Pupil Services for the district and working at GHS. I am fortunate to work closely with all of the staff in meeting the needs of special education students. Please know that I am here for you if you have any questions or concerns about these services, or if support is needed and can be reached at sarcra1@gpsk12.org or call 413-772-1350 x1028. I look forward to the opportunities for continued collaboration between the students, families, and staff at GHS! I always strive to ensure that students feel supported in their educational needs. How to Access E-Books and EAudio-Books via SORA:
A Note from Nurse Kelly Savitri:
Greetings GPS families! Keeping our students healthy is always my top priority, and it has certainly been on the forefront of everyone’s mind this year. I, along with the other district nurses, have been working closely with the local board of health to monitor the presence of COVID-19 in our community and to develop all of the necessary protocols for an eventual return to in-person learning.
I’m happy to report that our case prevalence in Franklin County continues to stay very very low. This indicates that everyone has been doing their part to control the spread of the coronavirus, and it is working. Please remember that the best ways to protect yourself and your family is the wearing of masks, practicing physical distancing, avoiding large gatherings, and performing frequent hand washing.
Also, most of you are probably aware that the governor has signed a mandate requiring all school children to be vaccinated for the flu this year. The deadline to have your child vaccinated is December 31, 2020. I recommend that you vaccinate sooner rather than later because of the expected increase in demand for the vaccine. If you have questions or concerns about this new mandate, you can reach me at kelsav1@gpsk12.org. Together, we can make this a safe and healthy school year for everyone!
