A Message from our Principal, Mr. Pflugrath...

Dear Osbourn Family,

I hope you and your family are doing well and enjoying Mother’s Day. Last week we were able to complete the first week of SOL and AP testing, celebrate boys’ lacrosse senior night, teacher appreciation week, and have a wonderful Prom. It was great to see our young scholars dressed to impress at Prom and enjoying themselves. It was the highest attended Prom in recent memory and I thank all of the chaperones and volunteers that donated their time to make this a reality for our students. Parents, please know how wonderful your kids are. They behaved in a mature and respectful manner at Prom. You have raised very courteous and thoughtful young adults.

This week we get to honor our Seniors for our softball, baseball, and soccer teams. There is free entry for students age ten and under. On Wednesday we have our Senior Scholarship Awards and Thursday our Department Awards, at 6 pm in the auditorium. Caps and gowns will be on sale again on Wednesday during lunch. On Friday, please come join us for our Rockfest at 7 pm in the auditorium. Saturday is our final Learning Seminar in the library from 9 am to noon. There are only three weeks left of school. Students, this is the time to get all of our work in and finish strong!

We will finish up our SOL and AP testing this week. Please see the detailed schedule in the newsletter and in Schoology. It is important for students to arrive on time, as they will go directly to their class for the SOL tests.

This is the best time of year for us as we celebrate the accomplishments of our students. I feel blessed to hear so many positive comments about our students, teachers, and community. Please reach out anytime if you have any questions.

  • Two Sharpened #2 pencils & Two black or dark blue pens
  • A watch to help time yourself (No I-Watches! Please turn off any beeping or noise-related function)
  • A graphing calculator for the Biology, Calculus AB or BC, Chemistry, Statistics, and Physics exams
  • Please review the College Board’s calculator policy for more specific information: https://apstudent.collegeboard.org/takingtheexam/exam-policies/calculator-policy
  • Dress in layers so you are comfortable during your exams

Do not bring the following items to the exam room:

  • Cell phones, I-Watches, cameras, IPOD’s, IPAD’s, Bluetooth-enabled devices, MP3 players, or any other electronic devices (NOTE: Please leave Cell phones in your car or locker or at home!)
  • Food or drinks cannot be at your table during testing. Must be in back packs.
  • Scratch paper, books, reading material

Additional Exam Day Instructions:

  • If you have a SOL and an AP exam scheduled for the same time, go to the AP exam! You will be automatically scheduled for a make-up SOL.

· Students must arrive to exams on time. Students will not be permitted to enter the exam room once testing has begun.

· Students will be given adequate time to make up any missed school work.

· Morning exams begin at 8 AM. Please arrive to your testing location by 7:45 AM. Students must obtain their own transportation to Osbourn.

· Afternoon exams begin at 12:30 PM. Please arrive to your testing location by 11:45 AM. Students taking afternoon AP exams will be dismissed from class to the cafeteria at 11:45 AM for an early lunch. It is your responsibility to make sure you remind your teacher to be dismissed. Students should arrange for transportation, as some afternoon exams may not release until after dismissal. Please communicate this to your parents, employers, and coaches.

· Students must remain in the testing location until the test is over. No one is permitted to leave early, even if they finish early.

· Students who miss an AP exam on the scheduled day may not have the opportunity to make it up. The Advanced Placement testing policy is very specific and very few reasons for missing an exam will qualify for late testing. Please have your parent email or call Ms. Greth immediately, if you miss an exam. If your parent does not contact Ms. Greth by the end of the same day you miss an exam, it will be assumed that your reason for missing the exam is not valid and a make-up exam will not be ordered. Ordering an alternative exam for late testing may require an additional fee as dictated by the College Board.

Attendance:

· Students are expected to attend classes before and after their AP exams.

· Classes will continue with instruction during AP testing and students are responsible for completing all missed assignments.

· Any student planning to check out of school after their morning AP exam, must provide a parent approved written note. This note will be collected at your morning exam and a check out pass will be distributed to you by the end of your AM exam. Any late school arrivals prior to afternoon AP testing will be handled through the attendance office.

Please contact Ms. Greth in the School Counseling Office with questions or concerns at

571-377-7038 or SGreth@mcpsva.org

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR AP EXAMS!

Glow of the Week...

I would like to give tribute to all of the mothers as our glow this week. Mother’s Day is one way to recognize our mothers for their unconditional love and support, but we could do it every day. You are the glue that keep our family and community together. Students, please give your mom a hug, kiss, and tell her you love her. I am grateful for all of our Osbourn mothers and their continued support our kids.
