Congratulations to our Middle School Soccer Team who won their first match against Passport Charter Monday night! Congratulations to the team, Coach Ulgut, Coach Alexander and Coach Pham on this great victory! The Orcas take on Renaissance Charter next Monday and will be hosting a game next Wednesday at the Technology Drive Campus. Come out and support your Orcas!
Sincerely,

The Technology Campus is incredibly thankful for all of our faithful readers, and for that we would like to reward our families. Moving forward we will have a NEWSLETTER QUIZ located under the Principal's corner.
Quiz completion will automatically place your student into a drawing for a Dress Down Pass. Dress Down Passes will be awarded to 10% of entries for each building. The number of entries will directly effect the amount of prizes awarded for the week. Entries selected from the lottery must be correct upon review.
We hope that you have fun, and enjoy reading this week's edition! Entries are due by the end of day Monday, October 8th.

First Grade
This week Mrs. Beckman’s class is reading the story “Gus Takes the Train” and learning about adjectives! In math, we are learning about subtraction strategies. Don’t forget that September’s homework will be due on Monday, October 1st!
This week, Ms. Jones’s class is continuing to learn about nouns, verbs, and how to write sentences correctly. We have started planning for our “Noun Town” class project. We are also working on sequence of events and multiple-meaning words. In math, we are working on subtraction. Ask your child to tell you about Linus the Minus!
As a class, students learned the value of teamwork and respect through a STEM challenge. They had to build a 12 inch structure, as a team, to help support a giraffe to reach its food. They did great!
Second Grade
Second grade is going to see Junie B. Jones is Not A Crook next week Tuesday September 25th.
This week we learned the effect air has on apples in science and also experimented with different liquids to see which liquid works best keeping an apple from turning brown.
This week we continued working on our Hispanic Heritage projects in class and hope to see all of our families next week for Hispanic Heritage night on the 27th.
Third Grade
Mrs. Anderson’s friends finished their Great Travel Fair projects as well. We continued our novel study of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and compared Wonka’s factory to Chocolate Kingdom. We have also finished up on arrays in multiplication and are continuing to practice our fact fluency, in preparation for our Multiplication Ice Cream party happening in a couple months.
Fourth Grade
Fourth grade has been hard at work this week! Mrs. Michaud’s class had a great time using the class Chromecarts during Reading! They have also continued their study of how to divide with 2 digit divisors, their novel study of Wonder, and their study of cause and effect relationships. Mrs. Colon's class is busy preparing for Hispanic Heritage Celebration! We created sculptures out of bread and will be painting them this week. We also made and tested model boats during Science class and learned 3 strategies to divide numbers during Math class.
As a reminder, all chaperones for our upcoming field trip to the Pirate Dinner Adventure must submit their payment of $26 by Friday, September 28. Permission slips to St. Augustine were passed out this week and are due November 9. Fourth grade will also be participating in our first Drop Everything and Write next Tuesday. This is designed to simulate the conditions of the FSA; the results will be shared with parents to help all students succeed in Writing.
Fifth Grade
The student in Ms. Blaske’s class are learning about the states of matter. The students worked in groups to discuss the different ways to separate objects in a mixture. They came up with some creative answers. The students will be working on a solubility lab to test which materials dissolve in water, and a temperature lab to see what happens to a balloon when it is heated and cooled.
The permission slip and payment for the Sanford Zoo field trip is due Monday, September 24. Students going on the field trip need to bring their lunch in a Zip-Lock bag. Students need to be in full uniform for the field trip.

OSS’s science fair is an excellent opportunity for our students to explore their favorite topic in science. It provides an avenue for student research, allow students to be actively engaged in their own learning, and to use their own creativity to solve a pressing problem in an imaginative way. A science fair builds a bridge between home and school - establishing bonds between students, parents, and teachers and inspires students to become life long learners.
All forms must be typed or filled out using blue ink. NO pencil!
Mr. Stampas is the adult sponsor. Stampas@orlandoscience.org, (407) 253-7304
Form 1B is signed by the student and the parent. Besides the start date of experimentation on form 1A (10/20/17), all other forms prior to experimentation will be dated in September.
