Welcome to TJ Walker Middle School!

On behalf of the our exceptional staff, I welcome new and returning students, parents and guardians to TJ Walker Middle School. The beginning of the year always holds such excitement and promise, and for us it is an annual rite of passage where we open our doors and share with you our hopes and dreams for the coming year.

I cannot tell you how thrilled and honored I am to greet you in my new role. My objective is to serve, inspire, and empower the Sturgeon Bay community in our pursuit of excellence, and this will continue to be my mindset for years to come. I speak for all TJ Walker staff when I say, what a blessing and a privilege it is to serve you, the Sturgeon Bay community, where anything is possible especially if you’re a Clipper!

School Registration August 4 & 9

The School District of Sturgeon Bay will hold school registration on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from noon to 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 from noon to 7:00 p.m. All public school students, regardless of grade levels, should register in the high school commons on these dates. Registration materials and payment of fees(check, cash or credit card) may be completed at one convenient location.

All families are mailed detailed Registration information that includes fee prices for each school on July 21. If you or your children are unable to register on either of these two dates, all school offices will be open for business (including late registration) starting Monday, August 15 from 7:30 AM. to 4:00 PM, Monday through Thursday.

6th Grade Orientation

6th Grade Orientation is Monday, August 29th at 6:30 to 7:30 pm and is held in the High School Auditorium. All 6th grade families are encouraged to attend. Parents have the opportunity to meet our staff as we review building-wide expectations and introduce TJ Walker's routines to you and your child. We'll discuss what to expect on the 1st day of school, meals and our yearly calendar. Your child will learn how to read their schedule, find where their classes are located as they travel from class to class.

First Day of School

All students report to their homeroom. A copy of their schedule will be handed out at that time. Reminder, breakfast is not available the first day of school.

Sturgeon Bay Food Service Program

The SBSD food service department would like to welcome district families and students to the 2016-2017 school year. This letter contains important information for all families who wish to enroll in the food service program.

Enrollment – A Family Authorization Form must be completed or updated by all families each year. This year, Family Authorization forms will be handed out at the Food Service table. Applying by August 26 will ensure we have complete information for each child to start the school year.

A deposit must be made, and negative balances paid in order for your family lunch account to be activated. Special arrangements can be made with the Food Service Director.

Schedule Changes

Mr. Smullen is available during registration days or parents can schedule a time to request a schedule change by calling 920-746-2803. All schedule change requests are to be made before school begins.

TJ Walker Middle School Summer Hours

Office hours return to normal times August 15, Monday - Friday, from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. Parents & students are welcomed to bring in supplies, learn their locker combination and see their classrooms.

7th & 8th Grade Orientation

Orientation sessions for new students entering 7th or 8th grade will be arranged on an individual basis. Parents and students are always welcome to attend the sixth grade orientation

Parent Volunteers Needed

Parent volunteers are needed for the first few days of school to assist sixth grade students with locker problems, school pictures(Sept. 14th), and to help in the office. Parents can sign-up at registration or by calling the middle school office at 920-746-2806.

Open House

Thursday, July 21st, 7pm

TJ Walker Middle School Sturgeon Bay, WI

Parents are encouraged to attend our Open House on Thursday, Sept. 15, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. This is an informal opportunity to meet your student’s teachers and tour the building with your child. We will also have our computer lab open to assist parents with using Haiku and Power School. Hope to see you there!

Google Accounts

GOOGLE ACCOUNTS: Google Apps for Education is used by thousands of schools and universities worldwide to make collaboration tools available for students, making it possible for students to work together virtually on documents, presentations, and projects via the web.

The Sturgeon Bay School District has adopted Google Apps for use in our classrooms. To ensure equal access for all students and to comply with online safety laws protecting children 13 and under, the District will provide Google accounts to students in grades 3‐12. This account will be in the District’s Google domain, is required for students to log into a Chromebook, and should be used for school purposes only.

Email accounts are required by many web‐based educational tools, and also allow students and teachers to communicate and collaborate in a safe and structured manner with their class. Google email access begins in fifth grade. District staff and the School Board have carefully considered students’ online safety in setting up the procedures and rules for students.

Fall Sports

FALL SPORTS INFORMATION: The following sports opportunities are available for middle school students this fall. Please do not be discouraged if you missed the first practice or meeting; contact the coach if you are interested! Parents are reminded that students must have a physical every other year to participate in these sports. Make sure you bring a green physical card to the doctor’s office when you go for the physical. Students who had a physical last year must complete an ivory-colored alternate year card. These cards are available in the middle and high school offices.

5th & 6th Grade Football: Students interested in participating in 5th & 6th grade football should attend an informational meeting with their parents on Thursday, August 15, at 6:00 p.m. in the middle school commons. Contacts: 6th - Doug Hansen 920-495-2075 and 5th –Ryan Zuelke 920-559-1197.

7th & 8th Grade Football: First practice is Monday, August 17, 3:30 – 5:15 p.m. Equipment will be handed out prior to practice starting at 2:30 p.m. in the middle school boys’ locker room.

7th & 8th Grade Girls’ Volleyball: First Practice is Tuesday, Sept. 1, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. with a parent meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 5 p.m. 7th & 8th grade volleyball players are invited to attend Open Gym on August 17 & 18 (8-10 a.m.) and/or August 24 & 25 (3-5 p.m.). Participation in open gym is voluntary and does not require a physical. Physical cards must be on file before you will be allowed to practice on Sept. 1.
