Liverpool Public School - March 2021
Diary Dates
Term 1
Principal's Message
It has been a busy but productive start to 2021. Students have settled into their new classes and are enjoying the learning challenges a new grade brings. A big welcome to all our new students and their families. Whilst the challenges of Covid make it difficult for parents and carers to be onsite, I do hope that you have been made to feel at home in our school. Please remember information is always available on our website, Facebook page and through the Skoolbag app, or you can contact the school on 9602 7882.
This year we welcome three new staff members. Miss Bosjnak and Mrs Young were both permanently appointed at the beginning of the year and Mrs Bell joins us for the year to replace Mrs Storey who has taken a position as Instructional Leader at another school.
Next week we have our parent-teacher learning conferences. These are a great way for parents and carers to speak with their child’s teacher and share information about how best to meet their child’s learning needs. I encourage all our parents and carers to make an appointment.
You may have heard about the NSW Government’s Covid Intensive Learning Support Program. This is a $337 million program to provide small group tuition for students who need it most across NSW primary, secondary and specialist schools. We have identified our first group of students to participate and are in the final planning stage for full rollout across the school. Further information will be shared as the program is rolled-out.
Last year, parents and carers completed a survey regarding before and after school care. The results indicated a need for before and after school care at Liverpool Public School We are currently working with the Department of Education to setup a before and after school care and will keep our community updated as this progresses.
In Term 4 last year, SRC students and school leaders were involved in the planning process for our playground upgrade. I am pleased to be able to share with you some indicative 3D imagery courtesy of the architectural firm LandFC Landscape Architecture. The project will include play equipment, nature areas, running track and playing field, and passive quiet areas for relaxation and learning.
This project is only possible due to the efforts of our community through fundraising and the hiring of our facilities over a number of years. The plans are currently waiting for approval from council and we hope construction will commence quickly once approved.
Yours Sincerely
Mr Tapuska
Have you seen these notes and when are they due?

Attendance:
This year as part of our School Plan a main focus is student attendance. Regular attendance at school is important for students to reach their potential. Students should endeavour to be at school on time, every day. If students are late each day they are missing out on vital learning opportunities.
School starts at 8:55am each day. If students are late, the school is required to record the reason as a way of ensuring that students are absent from school only when they are sick or have another good reason for missing school.
If a student arrives to school late, they should:
· Report to the office window and receive a late slip explaining their lateness.
· Show their late slip to the classroom teacher on arriving to class.
We will be monitoring the late attendance closely throughout the year. In particular those students who only have a day off every so often. The images below show how important regular attendance at school is.
Parent Learning Conferences:
Parent learning Conferences are next week, Monday 8 March to Friday 12 March.
Please remember to make a booking online to see your child’s classroom teacher. Instructions are below on how to make an online booking. We look forward to see you next week.
Thank you
Mrs Alfaro and Mrs Pritchard

In 1H, students have been learning to become efficient mathematicians. We have used hands-on materials to practice our counting skills so we can count large collections of objects in an organised and logical way. We found that if you group by tens it is very easy to count!
In writing, students have been writing sentences using capital letters, full stops and spacing. We have been writing about our favourite things such as sport, fruit and animals so we can get to know each other.
COVID-19 - Good Hygiene
The best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is the same way you would protect yourself from catching flu or other respiratory illnesses. Remember there are simple steps to help stop the spread and good hygiene is in your hands. We have some pictures below to help stay safe during this time.

All students in 5C have will be soaring high. They have identified their goals that they would like to achieve, from neater handwriting to having a pleasing report.
One of our missions is to create a positive class. This will be through working on the learning environment, giving helpful advice to our peers and learning from our mistakes to help ourselves.
We have been developing connections with our peers by working together in groups, playing together, doing artworks and teaching each other.
Learning and Support News (LaST)
Welcome back!
We have been busy working with staff, teachers, students and parents/caregivers this term. Some parents have shared that their children’s behaviour at home has not been adequate and that their child’s behaviour is impacting on the family.
If you have any behaviour concerns we strongly encourage you to discuss this with your child’s class teacher and your GP.
There are a number of reasons why children misbehave but below we have included some tips which you may like to try at home.
1. Make expectations explicitly clear
Eg. You need to clean your room before you can watch TV.
2. Be consistent
Consistency helps kids to feel secure and confident, in their surroundings, and in themselves.
3. Routine, routine, routine!
Try and organise dinner time, chores, homework, playstation, tv time etc- try and schedule them in for the same time every day.
4. Communication
Busy schedules and digital communications (eg. Iphones, ipads )have gotten in the way of REAL conversations. It is important to talk openly, honestly and often with your kids.
Add “communication time” to your daily routine by turning off the tv, devices and play station during meals
5. Know the symptoms and signs of a potential cause
Children can act out for various reasons.
By talking to your children often, you may be able to pick up on social problems or other emotional challenges they may be dealing with.

Scholastic Book Club
Our School will be participating in Book Club once again this year. Last year proved to be a huge success in raising approximately $1400 in rewards points to purchase new books for our school.
Book Club provides a fun and convenient way of bringing the best in children's literature into your home. It’s packed full of exciting books from best-selling authors, popular titles and series that kids love, as well as products and books that make perfect gifts for younger siblings who may not be at school yet.
Keep a look out for the new 2021 Book Club brochure due out in the coming weeks. Ordering from Book Club is easy — simply go online to Scholastic’s website or return your completed order form to the front office with the correct money in an envelope and then Scholastic’s ‘book elves’ take care of the rest. Before you know it, your child will have a lovely surprise to take home once their order gets delivered to their classroom.
When ordering from Book Club, you are not only helping your children, but you are also helping your school—20% of your spend goes back to your school in valuable Scholastic Rewards, which are used to buy classroom resources. 30km/h Safe Speed Zone in Liverpool
NOTICE TO SCHOOLS
30km/h safe speed zone in Liverpool to improve pedestrian safety
Transport for NSW |
Transport for NSW has delivered safer speed zones in Liverpool as part of our response to COVID-19, giving you more options to walk, cycle and move around the city in a safer environment.
As part of the initiative, school zones in Liverpool have been reduced from 40km/h to 30km/h affecting the following school zones:
- Liverpool Public School
- Liverpool Girls High School
- Liverpool Boys High School
- All Saints Catholic Primary School, Liverpool
- All Saints Catholic College, Liverpool.
Special 30km/h orange school zone signs and road markings have been installed to emphasize the reduced school zone speed limit.
Why is this being done?
Safety will be improved for vulnerable road users including pedestrians and cyclists when accessing key locations such as schools and shops.
Local residents will have added benefits with improved liveable local streets that are safer.
Motorists are reminded to drive to the sign-posted speed limit at all times for the safety of all road users.
