GoNoodle

Teachers,

This is a free easy way to get students up and moving with just a small amount of time. After research sent out last week we know moving increase brain absorption. Thanks, to our sponsors of Blue Cross Blue Shield we are also able to access many activities that link to math and reading free of charge for Tennessee.

We’ve been using a free website, GoNoodle, in many classrooms to keep moving throughout the day – there are tons of videos for dancing, sports, singing, practicing mindfulness, etc. Teachers have loved how easy it is to use. It’s easy to begin just sign up free here: https://www.gonoodle.com/sign-up?ref_id=share_email

Check it out, and let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Ashley

Physical Activity and Academic Achievement

Research is showing that physical activity can contribute to cognitive health with as little as 2-10 minutes in duration of physical activity (Castelli et al., 2007). The image found here shows brain scans from a study by Dr. Charles Hillman at the University of Illinois. These brain scans are of 20 students while they are taking a cognitive exam. The brains on the right are the scans of the 20 students after sitting quietly and taking the cognitive exam and the brains on the left are the brains of the same 20 students taking the same cognitive exam after walking for 20 minutes. For more information about the benefits of physical activity and its impact on academic success, email Christine.Hollifield@tn.gov.
