A Glimpse of this Past Week...
Good bye to Quarter 3 and hello to Quarter 4! Can you believe we are in the home stretch already? At the end of day Thursday, we saw many seniors creating stylish sweater vests and cardigans out of their Marian sweaters as they celebrated their very last sweater season! It is a true sign that spring is in the air! Don't forget that polo season starts Monday! A reminder for all Staffulty... make sure that if a student is wearing a Marian black zip up, that you can still see that they have the polo on underneath. Towards the end of the quarter, we caught MANY students NOT wearing their sweaters under their black fleece. Please be cognizant of this! Thanks!
Thank you all for making our exam week as smooth as possible. We do have a sizable handful of students who missed exams for one reason or another and would like to get them completed before spring break. Teachers, if you had a student who was simply absent the day of your exam, please make arrangements with those students and get the exams completed asap. If, however, there are students who have had extended absences/extenuating circumstances, Guidance will be working to develop a clearly laid out schedule for them to catch up on Q3 work and take exams so they can get back on track.
>>> We will be reopening the Parent/Student Portals by end of day Wednesday.
This Friday's inservice seemed to keep all of us on our toes as we shuffled through analyzing UBDs, identifying what we hope a Marian grad as well as an incoming freshman looks like in each department, and beginning to lay out year long curricular plans. Through the many discussions each department engaged in, their seemed to be a realization that through this important work, we are focusing on how we help our students navigate through the curricular plans we provide at Marian, graduating and utilizing their experience to pursue their dreams. You are all certainly appreciated for the work you do and the commitment your show at Marian every day.
Looking ahead...
This week will probably seem a bit disjointed as we begin the fourth quarter, but then leave for spring break. In addition, having so many retreats occurring during this week will make things a bit more complicated for lesson planning and delivery, but we are confident that you will still ensure that your student contact time will remain productive! A special thanks to all those who have worked to plan the retreats as well as those who volunteered to chaperone... it means a lot to students that you are with them during these important facets of their lives.
We will be having 6 students visiting from Germany on Friday, March 23. They will be shadowing 6 of our students (their teachers are already aware). These students are excited to experience education and culture in America. Please make sure that if you see them in the hallways or in your classrooms that that they feel welcomed!
Finally, on Friday March 23rd during 8th period, the cafeteria has asked that their student-workers come down for a small celebration (they usually do this at Christmas, but for scheduling reasons, couldn't fit it in). They will return to 9th period classes as usual. This includes the following students:
Conor Donadlson
Rhiannon Newsome
Alex Burr
Don Valeria
Sebastian Kielsa
Lauren Cygnar
Nicole Cygnar
Fatima Gomez
Anne Liggett
Adrian Esquive

Only One Month Left to Complete your GCN Training!
Back in August, you should have received an email from support@gcntraining.com titled GCN Mandated Trainings 2017-18. In that email you will find a note describing the way to log in to the GCN online training website. Once in, you will notice that you have a personalized list of trainings that are to be completed by April 2, 2018. These are videos that are required either yearly or periodically (please reference Appendix B in your Faculty Handbook) by staff based on your position here at Marian. This is part of your professional responsibility and important for you to be knowledgeable about, so if you have yet to attend to this, please make this a priority. Suggested times to complete would be during plan periods, over a weekend, in the evenings, or over school breaks. You can do them one at a time... you do not have to take all at once. If you experience trouble logging in, please contact the GCN Tech Team (listed on email) or Ms. Novy.
Once you have completed all of your trainings, please print out your certificate (tab found on your GCN Dashboard), and give Ms. Novy a copy.
