What's Happening in the LMC
I HAVE AN ASSISTANT! If you haven't met Karen Broemme yet, you're missing out. Come on down an introduce yourself! As they say, two heads are better than one.
We've already checked out nearly 400 books in 2018. Many of those books were nonfiction texts to sixth grade reading students who came down to get informational texts for their reading projects. And we've had nearly 50 fiction novels go out as a result of our Book Tastings this week alone. We have 12 more book tastings scheduled for the rest of the month. The top borrowing class thus far was Mrs. Kilmister's period 7 class.
The Reading Marathon half-way check-in will take place from Monday, January 29-February 2nd. Stop in with your list to get a prize, enter a raffle, and get another book to read!
February 12-16th we will have a "Love of Reading Month" Book Swap and Sale. Students and staff are invited to bring a middle school appropriate novel to swap for one of our discarded novels or with 25 cents, you can make a purchase.
Hour of Code
"A book is a gift you can open again and again!"- Garrison Keillor
We wrapped up books.
Students opened the "gifts".
Joy was shared!
The Library Cafe Welcomes Book Tasters!
The Library Cafe is Open for Tasting!
I'll be your hostess with the mostest.
Students really sunk their teeth into new books.
Kindness Resources
After Brian's presentation yesterday, I changed my mind on what I wanted to highlight this month. Where I usually post links to resources on technology, curriculum, teaching strategies, etc. I decided to provide a few resources connected to kindness.
Hope you enjoy!
5-Minute Film Festival: Videos on Kindness, Empathy, and Connection - This collection of videos will make you feel ALL the feels as the kids say.
"The Helping Hand" may have made me tear up.
"Kindness Boomerang-One Day" was an EXCELLENT illustration of how one act inspires others.
Visit the Random Acts of Kindness resources for educators for a variety of resources.
- Lesson plans
- Games
- Posters
- Project ideas (could potentially inspire kids who still don't know what to do for their community project)
Below I have attached a PDF of Kindness Bingo Cards. I see these being one way you may be able to challenge your Pride Block students to complete more acts of kindness. If you are interested in collaborating, let me know. My initial idea is that every student who completes the BINGO board will be entered into a raffle here at the library media center. I'll pull winners and they can choose a prize from my book shelf. You could also give candy, pencils, "Get out of homework free" passes, whatever works for you! The goal is to encourage more KINDNESS!
If you need additional resources to support your curriculum, please contact me ASAP. I'm happy to make purchases for the library that will help your instruction.
