American vs British romanticism
By: Nick Moscati
Summery of Romanticism
Romanticism is emphasizing the imagination and emotions over reason and intellect. But the British had different inspiration than the Americans did. The British where inspired by a vast history not only from their own country but European history in general. While the Americans where inspired by manifest destiny and the vast frontier. They had a blank canvas while the British had a culture to use. Other factors included the political landscape they where exposed to; having more political liberties and freedoms as opposed to living under a monarch. Thus leaving american romantics to create their own forms and genres.
