Mrs. Greene's 3rd Grade

Thankful...
What a spectacular day we had celebrating with lots and lots of SPECIAL PEOPLE! It was a joy to see your children interacting with their family members. We began by introducing our special person to the class. Then, we sang The Fifty States Song. Next, we participated in an interactive Kahoot game about popular culture THEN and NOW. Finally, the students took their special person to the Book Fair. It was so much fun! I will send pictures over the next few weeks of our fun!
If you need some topics for conversation around the dinner table, here are some things we are learning about in Room 9. Be sure to ask your child about these...
- What is a FREE MARKET ECONOMY?
- What is SUPPLY and DEMAND in an economy?
- What is a TEXT STRUCTURE in reading? Give an example of a text structure.
- What does it mean to SHARPEN THE SAW (one of the Seven Leadership Habits we have been learning about)?
- What do these roots mean - port, ject, flict, ped, tract, sect, rupt?
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am thankful that I get to call your kids "mine" for a few short hours each day. They truly make the days at school AWESOME!
That's all I have for now...
Enjoy your weekend! Go COLTS!!
Mrs. Greene
Special Helper - Melina!
If you do nothing else this weekend...please watch this video!!!!!
Room 9 Celebrations
A few student highlights from our week:
- A student on the playground was struggling with his emotions. He was very upset and upon further investigation, he wanted to play with Melina. When I called Melina over and explained the situation, with a smile on her face, she gladly took this sweet student under her wing and spent the rest of the recess playing with him. It was very sweet and a pleasure to watch a student give of herself in such a selfless manner.
- Alex (AVT) is working on his blackbelt. It is exciting to hear him talk about his accomplishments and his goals.
- Gabby and Lucy received postcards in the mail from someone in the community recognizing their leadership skills outside the walls of SRE. You should have received an email about this a few weeks ago. If you'd like to know how to make sure your child's leadership skills are recognized, feel free to let me know!
- Sophie was motivated to be a risk-taker by letting us time her on the MORPHOLOGY cards and their meanings. This was an "on the spot" decision by her. She performed in front of the class and did and amazing job!!! Who will be next?
