Message from Dr. Otway
Greetings College Park Families,
I extend a warm welcome as we embark on a new school year! We are thrilled to have your children back in our halls for a year of growth, learning, and exploration.
To keep you well-informed and engaged, we will be sending out a weekly family newsletter. This newsletter will serve as a valuable resource, providing insights into classroom activities, upcoming events, important dates, and more. It's our way of ensuring you are an integral part of your child's educational journey.
Stay tuned each week for our newsletter, where we'll share exciting details about what's in store for the first week of school. We value your partnership and look forward to a successful and enriching academic year ahead with your children being the leaders of their learning. In the next few weeks you should become familiar with our new house system to build community and our school goal of 100% of our students reflecting on their learning and the use of students trackers with the weekly goal of completing their independent pathways!
Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me at Otway@fultonschools.org
Warm regards,
Dr. Maisha N. Otway

Important Updates & Reminders
Tardies Begin August 14, 2023
The 1st week of school is tricky and getting in on time is often slower than typical. Starting on Monday, August 14th, 2023, tardy slips are required for any scholar arriving to school after 7:40 am.
School doors open at 7:10am and after 7:40am all Prek-5th graders are considered tardy.
Parents will have to sign their scholar into school after 7:40 am. This year we would like to emphasize the importance of punctuality and regular attendance for your scholar's academic success. Arriving on time sets a positive tone for the day and helps maximize their learning opportunity.
School Hours
92% of our students attend school regularly and we do understand that you may have doctor appointments, children getting sick, and family emergency. Please contact your child's teacher and send a note when your child returns to school. We need all scholars at school everyday and on time. Early dismissals, late arrivals and absences are all monitored and supports given to families in need.
School Hours
Begins promptly at 7:40 am
Early check-out Ends at 1:30 pm
School day ends at 2:20 pm
Office Hours 7:10am-3:30pm
Closed to the public during dismissal
School Dismissal Dismissal - Bus, Car Riders & Walkers
It is essential to inform all families that any adjustments to the dismissal procedure must be clearly communicated through a notice to ensure safety. Parents utilizing the car rider pick-up system are reminded to pick up their students exclusively through cars, as alterations to this process can jeopardize arrival safety and undermine the efficiency of car rider dismissal. Adults outside of cars requesting their children slows down the process and limits the monitoring of the safety of children being placed in cars. In cases where bus riders are not placed on their designated buses, they will regrettably be left at the school. Similarly, for students who walk home, it is imperative to maintain a seamless and secure transition for their journey back home. Please work with your child's teacher to keep your child and all of our children safe.
Summer Work Assignments
Many of our scholars completed summer work assignments. Please continue to hand them in this week to your teachers to get your summer work reward!

Tiger Spotlight
First Grader: Cameron Brewster
This year we would like to shine a light on our students who help College Park Elementary shine so bright. For the first week of school, we will be shining the tiger spotlight on first grader Cameron Brewster. Cameron has consistently demonstrated ROAR behavior throughout kindergarten, and he is eager to elevate this year. Here are some interesting facts about Cameron. His Favorite color is blue, and his favorite food is salad. Cameron's favorite subject is reading, and he is looking forward to reading more books this year. Cameron's favorite thing about College Park is the playground where he can have fun with his friends. Cameron's favorite super is flash.
Staff Spotlight
College Park is now offering an exciting new STEM class to all scholars. STEM stands for science technology, engineering & mathematics, these four fields will help explore student's creativity, innovation, problem-solving & critical thinking. Now let's shine some light on our awesome STEM teachers teaching STEM this year, Mrs. Smith-Davis & Ms. Ivey.
Mrs. Smith-Davis is a certified teacher for over 11 years with the last 6 years being at College Park. Ms. Ivey is a 7th year teacher and it is her first year at College Park Elementary. They are super excited about teaching STEM this year and helping students further explore the subject of science. They believe the students will be excited about the experiments they will conduct. Mrs. Smith-Davis says STEM will help benefit students by expanding their minds with exploration. Ms. Ivey is excited to see the students use their innovation skills and build.
Fun Facts About Our Stem Teachers
Fun fact about Ms. Ivey if she could be any superhero she would choose Wonder Woman.
Fun Fact about Ms. Smith-Davis she would choose being a bird over being a shark because of the places the bird can travel also due to the fact she can not swim.

During the orientation they learned about the school goals with students trackers, aspects of leadership and see themselves with the entire 4th & 5th grade. Scholars new and returning are able to meet some of our school leaders. And scholars were able to become creed certified by reciting our Princeton's Creed. Click the image to see the presentation.
