25 Years of Growing Together in Faith & Knowledge

Dear SFCS Parents & Friends,

Dear Parents and Friends of SFCS,

I was a good week back together last week at SFCS!

As with our greater community, we did experience an impact from this latest surge of COVID cases. In the course of the week we experienced 5 students and faculty who tested positive and 8 students who were quarantining for being deemed a close contact. Data from SCDHEC is still illustrating a rapid climb in cases in our area. We are well above the benchmark set for our local Catholic schools for our mask policy to go back to having masks optional. Hopefully this surge of cases will not last as long as the one we experienced early this school year.

I will be sending emails only for classes that have experienced a confirmed positive case while the student has been in class during school. Thank you for your assistance in monitoring for symptoms and communicating with us about any potential exposure at home. It continues to be our goal at SFCS to keep a safe environment while also maintaining an effective educational environment.

Tomorrow is the last day of the 2nd quarter and we will be conducting our Winter MAP testing session this week. Report Cards will be emailed home on Wednesday, January 19th.

Thank you to all the families that purchased the "Our Hears Will Rise" yard signs in preparation of Catholic Schools week. Catholic Schools Week this year will begin on Sunday, January 30th at the 9:00am Mass. Since this is our kick off event for the week all students and faculty need to attend. Students need to be in uniform. More information will come but I wanted to make sure everyone had this on their calendars.

Thank you and have a great remainder to your weekend.

Sincerely in Christ,

Brian Pope

Kindergarten was thrilled to start 2022 back together! We spent the week investigating penguins and their habitat, beginning to learn about community helpers and celebrating the Feast of the Epiphany. The children enjoyed learning about “chalking the door” traditions on the eve of the Epiphany. We chalked our classroom door together with the blessed chalk! This week we took our first practice spelling test and had our first member added to the Shoe Tie Club! It was a great week to be a SFCS Kindergartner!

5th Grade

SFCS celebrated the Feast of the Epiphany with a blessing for our classrooms and homes with blessed chalk. May the Christ Child dwell in our hearts and homes this year and always.

7th Grade Enlightenment Salon

7th graders became European philosophers and shared their views on government and society today while enjoying European fare.

Coach's Corner

SFCS Basketball is in full swing…all (4) teams were in action this week. Between practices and games almost night of the week, the kids are working hard and getting better! Mrs. Safe will be attending games this week to take team photos.

Coach Chad Perrine will be leading the boys’ soccer team this spring...So excited to have this coaching legend back on the sidelines again! After helping the girls’ side the past couple of years, he is making the switch and will continue to bring his passion for the world’s most popular sport.

Need a girls’ soccer coach…the soccer season is only March and April. Please email me at if you are interested.

Don’t forget to sign up for spring session at Moss Creek Equestrian Center. We will be hosting two schools for the spring session: St. Francis and Heritage Academy. Our program’s goal is to share the love of horses, learn how to care for the animal as well as riding. At the end of the session, we will host a friendly interscholastic competition. The co-ed team is open to students from each school 1st through 8th grade. The riding team will be an eight-week course meeting once a week (Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday afternoons). At the end of the eight weeks, we will have a horse show for all the participants to compete as individuals and as a school.

The classes will be held starting:

February 15th Tuesday 4:30pm - Heritage Academy Beginners

February 18th Friday 3:30pm - St. Francis and Heritage Academy Intermediate / Advanced Combined

February 18th Friday 4:30pm - St. Francis Beginners

February 20th Sunday 3:30pm- St. Francis Beginners

February 20th Sunday 4:30pm - Heritage Academy Beginners

Yard Sign Ordering

Catholic Schools Week (CSW) is just right around the corner! One way we will be celebrating our Catholic Schools Week opening Mass on Sunday, January 30th will be for families to purchase yard signs and displaying them in celebration. This year the CSW Mass is a special one. The Bishop will be our celebrant since this is our 25th Anniversary. We hope all our families will consider purchasing these yard signs and the great thing is that they are designed to be able to be used every School Family Mass Sunday for the year!!! Please see the order form to be completed and returned with payment. You may also order one by calling the school office with a credit card.

Virtue of the Week - Docility

Docility: Willingness to be taught

Our Prayer:

Dear Jesus,

You are my teacher in every situation! Before acting on important matters,

please give me the humility to seek Your wisdom and the wisdom of others,

in order to make the best decision. Give me the gift of Counsel, so that I

may do our holy will in each situation.

Alpha is a place to connect with other people who are open to exploring life, faith, and meaning. Each session includes a time to connect with others (over a free meal), hear a short talk on an element of the Christian faith, and then a chance for each person to share their own questions with the group. We’d love to have you join us!

St. Francis has two sessions of Alpha that begin Wednesday, January 19:

Lunch Session: 12:00 noon until 1:30 in the Family Center - Lunch included

Dinner Session: 6:00 in the Family Center - Childcare and dinner included

Alpha runs for 10 sessions and concludes April 6.
