ST. MARY PHOENIX NEWS

Mrs. Marvin's Corner
This week was a very exciting and emotionally charged week at St. Mary School. Words cannot express the excitement, anticipation and overall positive emotions we all felt relating to the Bishop's Visit. It had been over 30 years since a Bishop from the Diocese of Cleveland has visited St. Mary School. A Bishop visits St. Mary"s Parish for the sacrament of confirmation or special anniversaries. Bishop Perez sent the message to the 400 people attending mass at St. Mary Church Wednesday Morning about the importance of students receiving a Catholic education. Thank you to all of the teachers, staff, parents and students who made the day an amazing experience for everyone. Following the Bishop's Mass, many parents remained at the school to participate in "Parent's Day". Parents and students were seen participating in a variety of hands on experiences in the afternoon. On Monday of this week, the school community participated in a school wide service project to promote the awareness of the plight of refugees in Syria. The "Walk a Mile in My Shoes" Walkathon promoted a real-life simulation of families who live in Syria and must leave their homes and travel great distances to find a new place to live even in a different country. A Special "Thank you" to everyone who made this one of the most powerful weeks in St. Mary's history.

The Syrian Refugee Simulation and "Walk a Mile in MY Shoes" Walkathon
The "Walk a Mile in My Shoes" Walkathon illustrated the plight of Syrian refugees seeking safety in another country after fleeing war-torn Aleppo. Students dealt with challenges approximating what real-life refugees would face while struggling to relocate from Syria to Germany. Students were placed in "Families" and were given scenarios at each stop to participate in. It was a real-life learning experience and students as well as the adult learned a great deal about what it is like to be a refugee. Thank you to Mrs. Gorman for organizing this amazing event.

We Give Catholic Day of Giving, Tuesday, November 27th
#weGiveCatholic will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, also known as #GivingTuesday, a day that invites people to tell our Catholic story and raise important funds to help St. Mary School continue on its mission to provide quality Catholic education for our students. All donations remain at St. Mary School and are used for our students. The great thing is that you do not have to attend an event or purchase anything to participate in #weGiveCatholic.
