Mrs. Greene's 3rd Grade
May 25, 2018
A Great Week!
This will be my LAST newsletter of the year.
It was a pleasure to see each of you at the Writing Open House today. I was swelled with pride as I watched students happily sharing their stories with their friends and family.
We began our COUNTDOWN TO SUMMER VACATION on Thursday, May 24. We are counting down the last five days of school. On Thursday your child could choose from one of the following: Dance Party in Mrs. Greene's room, Kickball on the playground, Make a craft with Mrs. Russ. It was so much fun! Today our countdown activity was a READ OUTSIDE activity. What fun it was to lay on a beach towel with a cool drink soaking up the sun with a great book! Tuesday we will have a CARTOON LUNCH as our treat. I will provide a treat for the students to enjoy when they finish their lunch.
The annual "Mrs. Greene's Academy Awards" ceremony will take place on the last day of school, May 31, in Room 9. I ask that the students come to school dressed in a nice outfit. Once the awards ceremony is over, I will allow them to change into their normal school clothes. We voted on students who fit certain attributes (most improved reader, most beautiful eyes, most athletic, etc...). Students will walk the "red carpet" to receive their special award(s). They LOVE it and so do I!
Don't forget... Tuesday, May 29 is Track and Field Day. Your child should wear cool clothes, tennis shoes, have sunscreen, and bring a water bottle. We will be outside most of the day. You should have received a schedule of events that was sent home with your child earlier in the week. If not, let me know and I will make sure you get the schedule.
What an AMAZING school year it has been! I have been blessed to get to be a part of your child's life for 185 days. We have laughed, cried, and learned many lessons together. I have been a teacher for 24 years and I never stop learning and growing in this profession. These students taught me so much this year... 1) Students need LOVE first, then they will want to learn from you and follow your instruction 2) Respect students as you do your co-workers 3) Being a teacher is about helping the WHOLE child - not just academically, but socially and emotionally 4) Demand the best out of every student!
Those are just a few of the lessons I learned from this particular group of students. I can honestly say I woke up every morning excited to teach your child and watch him/her grow into a confident child ready to tackle whatever comes his/her way. I will miss your children dearly. Please stay in touch!
Enjoy your summer!
