Sunrise Family Updates
5.4.23
Hi Sunrise Families!
I hope this message finds you well! Your e-mail inbox is likely flooded with reminders to complete your Registration for the 23-24 School Year. Thank you for taking a few minutes to do that.
Your child may have already shared with you that Mr. Grahl is retiring this year. We are so grateful for all he has done for our children and families in Sturgeon Bay and wish him all of the best in his new adventure. We may need to request more Kleenex boxes as we say good-bye to our beloved counselor.
We are very excited that each grade level will make a visit to the library and Miller Art Museum in the next few weeks! We would love for each Sunrise student to have their own library card, so that they can check out a book when they go on their field trip. If your child does not already have a library card, thank you for considering traveling to our Sturgeon Bay Library to fill out the paperwork for your child to have their own card. Please call the library if you have any questions at all! 920-743-6578
A reminder that our Read-a-Thon is underway for our Sunrise and Sawyer playgrounds (which are desperately in need of replacement). Please share this link far and wide! https://app.99pledges.com/fund/sturgeonbay/ and if you have not added your child yet, you can also do so on this page (at the bottom left, it says "add participant" in blue). Here is a little more information about our Playground Project.
Thank you for taking a moment to enjoy the photos and read the rest of the updates. A reminder that there is no school tomorrow due to an in-service for the teachers. I hope you have a great Friday and weekend!

Sunrise Principal
P.S. Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! The PTO has planned some sweet treats to help our wonderful Sunrise teachers feel appreciated for all they do. If your child has time to write a note to their teacher, I know that would mean the world to them.
Mr. Grahl's Message
Dear Sunrise Families:
It is with a mixture of sadness and excitement that I am announcing my retirement from the public school system at the end of this school year. School counseling has been my life for 26 years. This summer I am transitioning to the clinical world as a mental health therapist at a hospital in Fond du Lac. I grew up in this area and will be closer to family.
Over the years, many kids have poured out their hearts to me in my office in a variety of ways. If I can leave you with one tool that has served me well as counselor, it is this: Play with your kids! Get on the floor and build with Legos. Play chase games. Wrestle in the pillows. Ride bikes together. Build forts. Throw water balloons at each other. Eat together as a family and talk. When you are at the park, get off the bench and climb with the kids on the equipment! Just ten or fifteen minutes of giggly, playful interaction on a regular basis will go a long way when it comes time for them to listen to you, follow your directions, obey your wishes, and trust you.
Your children are a gift from the Lord. They crave your love and affection more than air. When you show you crave them just as much, you will be rewarded in ways unimaginable throughout your lifetime. Thank you for trusting your children with me. It has been an honor and a privilege working with kids and families in the Sturgeon Bay community.
Mr. Grahl
