Onekawa School Newsletter
Week 7 Term 4, Friday 24 November
Kia ora e te Whanau
Over the last seven days I have received the most amazing feedback about our children:
- A supervisor at Ocean Spa told me last Friday that our children were the best behaved that she had seen at the pool.
- On Tuesday, Huataki attended a show at the Municipal Theatre. A member of the public approached Mrs Woods to tell her how impressed she was with our children.
- Yesterday, one of the painters who has been working at school told me that our children were the most respectful he has encountered over the many decades he has worked in schools.
- Last night I received a phone call from one of our netball coaches to say how wonderful her team performed and behaved at their game. She said our children were so respectful and a great example for other children.
This wonderful feedback has really made my week... congratulations children!
This afternoon a school survey is being sent home with every child. We are in the process of developing our strategic plans for 2024 and beyond. We need your feedback to be able assist with this.
Please complete and return the survey to the office by this Wednesday 29 November. We will record the names of families who return the survey and they will go in the draw to win a $100 Pak n Save voucher.
Have a fun weekend!

Huataki's Trip to the Municipal Theatre, and their Stories!
My class went to a show. The lights went out. The show was starting but when
the curtains opened up Sophia went forwards. She said “Help!”. I was with
Austin and Leo. There were nine kids trying to get home. They saw a dragon in
the sky. It was the best show ever. Good work Porritt School.
Me and the class went to a show. We sat up the top and the lights went out.
The show started. Girls and boys came out. They got lost. They got to the
beach. My favourite was all of it! That was fun. Good job Porritt.
On Tuesday my class and I went to the show Porritt School was performing. My friend Elly
was doing the show. She was in the flower show. It was so cool. When the lights turned
down Pixie and me got a huge fright. The first show was the beach. My favourite bit was
the flower show with Elly. It was the best show ever.
Yesterday Huataki went to the Show. I was excited. There was a dragon and a
big jellyfish. Joffre fell asleep for the whole show. It was super cool. I saw a
dolphin, a whale, a crab and a starfish.
We went to a show. When it was starting the lights went off. A big curtain went up. Behind
the curtain was a lot of talented kids. The show was the best. My favourite was the sea.
Yesterday we went to a show. When we got there we went inside. We were super excited.
Sophia was wobbling and jiggling and when the curtain came up, Sophia came up too.
When they started, it was raining. But they wanted it to be warm. Their wish came true. So
they went in the water. They saw crayfish and a clownfish. It was super fun. Porritt did a
great job and they should be proud of themselves.
I am on the bus with Austin. We were going to the show. I loved it. We sat up the top. It
was dark. There are so many lights. The kids are so amazing.
I might be doing a show and I might get to be the person who knows everything. Maybe the
whole school would be doing it or it might be just Huataki. I hope I will be doing it.
Yesterday I got to go and watch a show in town. The lights went out. Sophia was
wiggling and jiggling. The curtains went up so did Sophia! Halfway through the
show Tate and Joffre fell asleep. I tried to wake them up but they kept sleeping.
At the end they immediately woke up. Whew! They missed all of the dancing
and the singing and the exploring of Aotearoa and the big Taniwha.
The lights went out. It was dark when the curtains opened. I was so excited. I had
butterflies in my tummy and I don’t know why. There were hundreds of kids. “I cannot
wait,” I said. On the seats were kids waiting to start their show. At the start there was a TV
but not an ordinary TV. It shows us some pictures and the theatre is better than a movie
theatre. It was awesome. I had the best time ever. My favourite part is the flower part
because I really love flowers. Do you want to know how we got there? On a bus. I sat next
to Emmie. The seats were comfortable. The Porritt School should be proud of themselves.
Yesterday I went to the theatre. When the curtains went up I went up. In the middle of the
show I got my arms stuck in the little gap by the pole. I was very happy when I got my arms
out. I was very quiet and sad. I whispered “Yay”. I still liked the show but not the part
when I got my arm stuck!
We strongly encourage children to be sun smart at school.
Hats are worn and sunscreen is available for children to apply during the day.
We ask that children wear clothes that cover their shoulders i.e. not shoe string straps.
