Yearbook Orders
Orders can now be placed for the 2018-2019 Madison Paw Prints. A yearbook costs $17 and will be delivered to the student before the end of the school year. For those new to the school, Madison Elementary School yearbooks cannot be ordered on ParentVue as with the middle school and high school yearbooks. Our yearbook is 52 full color pages that includes many of the wonderful activities and events that happen during the school year.
Please click https://www.treering.com/validate?PassCode=1014308585474714 to order and pay with a credit card or check. The passcode is 1014308585474714.
Please refer to this spreadsheet, which includes all orders as of Mon., Jan. 29, 2019, to verify if an order has been placed for your child.
We need your help! Please join the Yearbook Committee. There are many opportunities to help from taking photos of special events, to creating actual yearbook pages using TreeRing, to helping with orders and more. A volunteer or two from each grade level is needed to take pictures of each student and create the grade's collage page. We are still looking for volunteers for every grade level. If you have any questions, please contact Dawn Draus and Megan Savitt at yearbook@madisonschoolpta.org

Explore More Day volunteers needed
For this year's Explore More Day, May 24, we're looking for a kindergarten parent (or two) to serve as the kindergarten coordinator, and a 1st grade parent (or two) to serve as the 1st grade coordinator. Initial planning meetings begin in February.
On Explore More Day, regular classes are set aside so students can try out different science, sport or art activities. Second - 5th graders can choose five exciting classes from a wide variety of course offerings led by Madison staff, parents and community members. Kindergarten and 1st grade follow a set curriculum.
Also, we are always looking for new material. If anyone has a special interest or hobby that you'd be willing to present as a new Explore More Day class, please let us know.
If you would be willing to serve as coordinator of kindergarten or 1st grade, or if you have a class you'd be willing to lead, please contact Rachel Bailey, Stephanie Brown, or Amy Fiorato at emd@madisonschoolpta.org.
Thank you in advance for your support and enthusiasm for Explore More Day. We hope it will be a very special day for everyone at Madison School. Please consider volunteering your time, a hobby and/or skills.
Donations to benefit Madison families
If you are looking to donate anything such as clothing, home stuff, toys, electronics, etc. please consider giving to Family Tree Resale on Geneva and Main in Wheaton (by the Jewel).
For every bag of donations they receive on behalf of Madison School, Family Tree will in turn donate a voucher to our school for a family to use to purchase items. Just drive around to the side door, walk in, and someone will help you unload your donations. Be sure to mention Madison School.
Save Your Pop Tabs
Madison Elementary students will be collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charities at Central DuPage Hospital throughout the rest of the school year. The funds RMHC receives from recycling the pop tabs helps keep families together while their loved one is in the hospital. RMH provides meals, a place to stay, and the comforts of home during a difficult time. Each grade will have a collection container outside of the office when we return from winter break. Students can collect pop tabs from home, family, friends, or neighbors. The grade with the most tabs collected at the end of the year will receive a special reward. Start collecting those tabs over winter break! Questions contact Amy at madisoncares@madisonschoolpta.org

Volunteer in the LLC
If you are looking for additional ways to help out at Madison, please consider volunteering in the library. This year we are short volunteers. Specifically, the LLC could use extra help on Tuesday and Friday mornings (9:15 a.m.-12 p.m.) and Wednesday and Thursday afternoons (1-3:30 p.m.). If you were to volunteer, you could expect to help check in and out books for students, shelf recently returned books and help Mrs. Graham with whatever else she may need that day. It is a lot of fun and we'd love to have you! Please contact Kathryn Medanic at llcvolunteers@madisonschoolpta.org to volunteer.
Save General Mills box tops
Please save General Mills box tops and turn them in to the LLC. Madison can earn ten cents for every General Mills box top received. Thank you to Cecilia Horjes for heading up this effort. We purchased many copies of award books for the library. Thank you for your support.
Test for Radon; give back to Madison PTA
Chances are good that one of your resolutions for 2019 is to be healthier. Have you thought about the health of your home?
Did you know that Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer behind smoking? Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that enters the home through cracks and voids in concrete foundations and can become trapped in homes at levels that are beyond the safe level of 4.0 (pCi/L).
According to a study conducted by IEMA 41% of homes tested for Radon in Illinois had levels higher than the safe action level of 4.0 (pCi/L).
Fortunately Radon can be tested for and remediated!
The cost of testing and a reduction system is far less trouble than any potential long term health care costs.
For a limited time Signature Craftsmen will contribute $35 from each $185 test back to the Madison PTA. Please reach out with any questions, and also specify that you are a Madison Family when scheduling your test. Not only are you protecting your loved ones, you are also helping our Madison Community.
Call now to schedule your appointment.
