Principal's Message
Thank you to everyone who completed the Change to Instruction survey! Families will receive confirmation of their choice this week.
Don't forget we have our One School One Book Culminating event on Wednesday, March 24th at 7:00. There is still time to sign up. Please see the information below!
Spring Break begins on Monday, March 29th. My next Sunday Newsletter will be sent on Sunday, April 3rd. Please don't forget that on Monday, April 5th, there is no school for students. It is a Remote Planning Day. On Tuesday, April 6th, all students will participate remotely. The building is closed due to elections, so we will not have any students come to the building on the 6th. We will follow the same schedule that is currently in place. The in-person students will participate remotely from 9:00-11:30 with their classroom teacher and our remote students will participate from 12:30-3:30 with their classroom teacher. Specials schedule will remain the same.
Thank you, thank you!! We are above the needed 20% for the 5Essentials survey. If you are still interested in completing it, the survey closes on April 2nd. Please see below for more information as well as the link.
I know that I have said it before, but thank you to all of you for your continued support and flexibility! I don't think any of us ever expected a year like this, but I am proud of all of the hard work from the students, teachers, and parents to make this year a success!
Best,
Alli Landstrom
Monday Schedule Reminder
As a parent, if you are looking for resources for your child after 1pm please refer to Monday Afternoon Opportunities. These activities are suggestions for independent time on Monday afternoons. The afternoon time does not need to be structured. Families may add their own ideas. These activities do not need to be submitted to the classroom teacher. Because of the amount of technology used during the rest of the week we included all no screen time options. If families are interested, they can access Dreambox, Lexia and other software students use during remote learning. Teachers will be using this valuable time for professional development and team collaboration so they can best meet the needs of their students.

IAR Information
The IAR testing continues this Monday. Below is more information as well as reminders regarding this test.
Testing time:
- Monday, March 22nd 9:00-12:30 pm, just like a typical school day, the school doors will open at 8:50 for arrival
- Monday, April 12th 9:00-11:30 am, just like a typical school day, the school doors will open at 8:50 for arrival
- Monday, April 19th - TBD. We have received some new guidance from the district in light of moving to 5 days a week. We will share that information with you this week.
Testing locations: Due to social distancing parameters, there are limits to the number of students in each location. These locations will be shared with you by your classroom teacher. We understand that many of our students have not been in the building yet this school year, there will be many staff members around the building helping students to find their locations.
Reminders:
- Self-certification: All students MUST be self-certified to be in the building. We have been told by the district that self-certification will be "turned on" in ParentVUE for all families. You may use the self-certification feature in ParentVUE or the self-certification document below. If you use the document, please have your student bring this signed document to school with them on Monday morning. Teachers will be asking for them at arrival, so please make sure that your child has this paper in hand when they exit the car or bus.
- Students must wear a mask in the building at all times.
- Materials:
- CHARGED Chromebooks
- Headphones
- Sharpened #2 pencil
- Book
- Water Bottle (water fountains may not be used)
- Car-Rider Dismissal: in order to make the car line dismissal as smooth and efficient as possible we ask that you write your child’s first and last name and teacher on an 8 ½ X 11 piece of paper and place it in your windshield on the right side of the car.
- Please see the following link for our Car Rider procedures. http://peterson.ipsd.org/Subpage.aspx?id=432
- If you noted that your child will ride the bus on Monday, you can find your bus information in ParentVUE. Click on the Student Info tab and scroll all the way to the bottom. Information should be listed there. Remember the timeframe is for our typical Tuesday-Friday schedule, simply add one hour to the drop-off time.
If you have any questions, please contact Rachel Witkowski at rachel_witkowski@ipsd.org or at 630-428-7265.

Illinois 5Essentials Survey for Parents
Parents, students and teachers across Illinois will once again have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by the University of Chicago. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey. If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school.
To take this short survey:
1. Visit 5 Essentials Survey Link
2. Type and select “Dupage” as "County." (The county is the location of the school district's main office.)
3. Type your school's name into the "School" field and select your school.
Welcome Class of 2034

Second Step
This month, our schoolwide theme is problem-solving. In our morning announcements and classroom lessons, we will be reminding students to use the Second Step Problem-Solving Steps:
- S: Say the problem
- T: Think of solutions
- E: Explore consequences
- P: Pick the best solution
As you can see, the first letter of each step spells the word ”step.” Remembering “step” helps students solve problems with each other in safe and respectful ways.
Second Step lessons specifically teach students to use each step and reinforce the message that solutions need to be safe and respectful. You will be receiving Home Links about the steps that describe why solving problems is important and including fun activities to do with your child to help him or her learn and practice the steps. We hope the steps will be helpful for you and your child when there are problems at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you would like more suggestions about how to use the Problem-Solving Steps at home.
Self-Certification Required Before Coming to School
Please note, if you are using the ParentVUE app to self-certify, you need to make sure you are using the most updated version and are logged in. If you have any difficulties with the app, please use the desktop version to complete self-certification.
The self-certification prompt will appear each day you login to ParentVUE, regardless of your child’s schedule for in-person learning. You only need to complete this step on the days your child will be at school.
Here is a helpful way to self-certify:
- Go to your search engine (Google, Safari....)
- Type in "parent vue 204"
- Click the first link that pulls up (it should have the title 'Edupoint Education systems' as part of the link).
- Click on the link and it will have you sign in and the first thing that will pop up after you sign-in is the self-certify questions.
We ask that you please monitor your child's health closely and keep them home if they aren't feeling well. You can report your child's absence using ParentVUE after completing the self-certification process.
News from the LMC
Curbside Book Pick-Up:
- Did you know that Peterson LMC has been providing contactless Curbside Book Pick-Up since October? The LMC will continue to do this for the rest of the school year. Additionally, we are also going to deliver books to classrooms for our In-Person learners too! Reading is so important to learning. The more practice students get, the better they are at reading! We want to give students as many opportunities as possible to find books that they enjoy!
- Below you will find a flyer for the process. A video is also within the flyer. The video explains the process and shows students how to place holds through our online catalog that all students have access to through the SSO.
- It's simple, safe, and contactless! Please know that when books are returned, they are quarantined and then cleaned before being put back into circulation! Please see the attached flyer. If you have any questions, please reach out to me with questions via email: ann_schimmoler@ipsd.org It is my hope that your child uses this process to select books from the LMC. We have a library of books waiting to be read! :) ~ Mrs. Schimmoler
