1. Life as a Vassal

I had to hire a knight to protect my land!

A person in the Middle Ages who received protection and land from a lord in return for loyalty and service.

A warrior of olden times who fought on horseback, served a king, held a special military rank, and swore to behave in a noble way, and sometimes vassals can be knights as well.

3. Jobs of vassals

They hired knights to protect there land. And under the feudal contract, the lord had the duty to provide the fief for his vassal, to protect him, and to do him justice in his court.

Certain vassals who held their fiefs directly from the crown were tenants in chief and formed the most important feudal group, the barons. Some vassals did not have fiefs and lived at their lord’s court as his household knights. http://school.eb.co.uk/levels/intermediate/article/74888

5. Questions

What do vassals do for the king?

5. Can vassals be a knight to?

I think vassals had a good life style because most were close to the king, and had enough money for them and there family, and to pay knights to protect there land if they couldn't.
