February is here and we are celebrating Black History Month at Compass. We have planned some educational activities for our students throughout the month to honor this time:

1. Black History Month Bingo will take place throughout the month. Our office will read clues each morning throughout the month regarding historical black figures, or historical moments in black history. The first three classrooms that achieve BINGO will get popcorn the week of 2/22-2/26.
2. Friday (2/19/21)- Students will watch a video. The video will be of an interview with Jamie Grayson. Jamie is the founder and executive director of POAC Succeed. (People of All Colors Succeed)
3. Week of (2/19/21)- Students will take some time to learn about the American Jazz Museum located in Kansas City, MO. Teachers will lead students through activities to educate them on the history of this musical genre and its roots in black history.
4. Friday (2/26/21)- We are trying to collaborate with our Step Dance Team at Barry School with the hopes of being able to show students a step dance performance, along with a brief narrative on the history of Step Dance.

Our spring Parent/Teacher Conference date is quickly approaching. Conferences will run virtually from 2:30-3:30 pm and 4:00-7:00 pm. Teachers will have two class meeting times on this evening to review a student showcase. Families are encouraged to attend one of the class meeting times at either 4:00-4:30 pm or 6:00-6:30 pm. Google Meet links to these meetings will be shared through the Google Classroom by teachers for families to attend. During this time our teachers will share information what students will be sharing/showcasing from their data notebooks. Your student's teacher may also be communicating with you on next Wednesday 2/10/21 to set up a one on one appointment to share progress and/or concerns with student learning if needed. Teachers will be using the Calendly program that was used in the Fall to coordinate and schedule these meetings. Individual conferences will be by invitation only; if your teacher is requesting an individual conference they will begin communicating that with parents/guardians on Wednesday, February 10th. If your child's teacher does not reach out to schedule a meeting we look forward to seeing our families during one out of the two class meeting times from 4:00-4:30 pm or 6:00-6:30 pm. Children who have turned five years of age before August 1, 2021, are eligible for kindergarten for the 2021-22 school year. Families are encouraged to view the attendance area boundary map linked on our district website here (https://www.plattecountyschooldistrict.com/about_us/boundary_map), or call the District office at 816-858-5420 for confirmation of attendance area.

If your family has an incoming kindergartner, please complete the following form. We will send you an enrollment packet and then will contact you to sign up for your child's Kindergarten Kickoff time.

We have noticed the car rider line beginning to back up into the round-a-bout on Kentucky Ave. Please note your assigned time below to help spread out the amount of cars in line during our dismissal process. As always, thanks for your help with this process!

The following will be the schedule for Third Quarter: (February & March)

1. Families with car rider tags 71-105 arrive at Compass no earlier than 3:35 pm.
2. Families with car rider tags numbered higher than 105 arrive at Compass no earlier than 3:40 pm.
3. Families with car rider tags 1-35 arrive at Compass no earlier than 3:45 pm.
4. Families with car rider tags 36-70 arrive at Compass no earlier than 3:50 pm.
