Deer Families
Deer Hill School News . March 10, 2023
Dear Deer Hill Families,
This week we launched our third Gotcha ticket challenge with a focus on growth mindset and perseverance. The timing has been perfect with the return of our circus in residence week. Students in all grades had an opportunity to try new skills outside of their comfort zone with 5th graders showcasing them at tonight's evening performance. Throughout the week it was not uncommon to hear shouts of "I did it!" after successfully completing a balancing trick or other circus-worthy feat. These skills do not come easily to most, and the feelings of satisfaction and confidence that come from the effort + practice = accomplishment equation are directly transferrable to the academic challenges in the classroom and beyond. Tonight's show was a success -- 5th graders did an amazing job in their debut as circus artists! Deer Hill is SO grateful to the PSO for making this week with Circus Smirkus possible!
All the best,
Alexandra L. Sullivan

Need to Knows
- Our lost and found is FULL of lovely coats, sweaters, and other personal belongings. If something has been missing from your laundry basket, please feel free to drop by school and take a peek. All items will be bagged at the end of next week and donated to charity.
We are excited to announce our first annual multi-cultural event in Cohasset: Mosaic. This event will celebrate the different backgrounds and cultures that come together to make Cohasset the wonderful community that it is! In order for this to be an interesting, engaging, and fun event, we are calling upon our families to volunteer to create stations that showcase their family’s heritage. Stations could feature food, art, music, clothing - anything that you feel celebrates your culture, while serving to educate our students at the same time! This will be a district-wide event that will take place within CHS. To volunteer, simply click the link on this e-flyer. Thank you for supporting this wonderful new event; we hope to see you there!
Keeping the Joy (happenings at Deer Hill)
- Deer Hill experienced our first celebration of Holi on Wednesday with students wearing their brightest colors and highlighting messages of joy, kindness, and a love of spring on the school-wise mural that was created. Many thanks to Deer Hill parent, Anjali Stevenson, for sharing her knowledge of Holi and organizing this activity. It brought bright smiles and cheer to a day when the weather was decidedly grey.
- Grade 3 students have been sharing their writing accomplishments with families in classroom showcase events over the last couple of weeks. One of the most important parts of authorship is having an audience. Thank you to families for providing that opportunity!
- Speaking of writing, students in Ms. Henry's 5th grade class have been "blowing up" sentences to create narrative stories rich in detail. Here's an example of their collaborative work.
