Pleasant Valley Primary

News to Know - December 2021 Edition

A Note from the Principal

Hello, Pleasant Valley Primary families,

It’s almost time for another one of our monthly Community Conversations. This month we will host it via zoom to help encourage more families to participate. Here are the details for our Monday, December 6th, 6:00-7:00 conversation.

Who: Craig Pearson, Principal

Topic: Why Do We Need So Many Psychologists and Student Lunch Time

Date: Monday, December 6th

Time: 6pm-7pm

If you have any questions you would like to have addressed specific to this topic beforehand, feel free to share these with us as info.pvp@battlegroundps.org and we will do our best to include these in the conversation.

My goal is to keep these conversations to an hour in order to honor everyone’s busy schedules. If some conversations are more engaging, we may decide to continue the topic the following month.

The PVP Elves are at it again!

Tune in to PVP's social media accounts for The Thirteen Days of Elfmas!

Starting Dec. 1, our PVP Elves will be returning to social media! You may notice a variety of ways that this event looks different this year. One of those ways is that it will be starring a wide variety of PVP staff.

Each school day during December we will post a picture with a staff member dressed as Santa. The idea is for kids and families to guess who they think it is. This is all just for fun, and there are no prizes. One way people can play is by replying to the post. We will reveal the Mystery Santa the next day on social media.

Pleasant Valley Canned Food Drive

PVP will be joining forces with PVM for this year’s canned food drive. Primary and middle school teachers have been paired together to work as a team.

The food drive will take place from December 6th through December 15th. More information will be coming from your child's teacher soon!

Second Step : Social-Emotional Learning at PVP

Our schoolwide theme for the month of December is Emotion Management. Your child is learning about the importance of identify strong emotions and how to manage them. This is important because research shows that children who learn these skills are more likely to develop stronger coping skills, be better problem solvers, make more positive choices, and build stronger relationships. Positive self-talk, slow breathing, and counting slowly are some good ways that Second Step lessons teach children to calm their strong feelings.

The Beaver B.R.A.V.O. Pledge

An important piece of setting and reviewing our school-wide expectations with the staff and students at PVP is our Beaver B.R.A.V.O. Pledge. We all say the pledge daily after the Pledge of Allegiance. We acknowledge students when they demonstrate any of the five expectations set in the pledge. Here it is:

"Today I pledge to build my school community the B.R.A.V.O. way by:

Being respectful

Responsible

Always safe

Valuing my community, and being an

On-task learner

We are here to learn! Work hard! Be kind! Show courage! PVP!"
