We encourage all seniors to complete these applications regardless of postsecondary plans at this point in order to maintain eligibility for this scholarship in case plans change in the spring.

Meetings with Counselors
The counselors were in the senior English classes on August 21st to go over the college application process, to register students for e-transcripts, and to inform students of the Advantage Shelby County scholarship program and the planning resources available on the SHS Counseling website. Seniors will be called down during September and October to discuss their plans for the future. Discuss this with your child and make sure he/she is prepared with any questions you all may have.
Junior/Senior Checklist
A postsecondary planning checklist was emailed to all juniors and seniors to help them get started on their plans after graduation. It's a handy, monthly guide to the steps students should be taking to transition out of high school.
College Applications
Labor Day weekend is a great time for seniors to complete a college application. After applying to a college of their choice online, seniors should request their transcripts be sent electronically through their Naviance account. Counselors will process the request and complete the school secondary report online. Students will receive email notification when those tasks have been completed. We encourage seniors to complete their college applications prior to fall break.
Check out this website for the colleges and universities which are waiving their application fee during the month of September, College GO! Week (September 21-25), or on application day (September 25). Students who qualify for the free or reduced lunch program, are 21st Century Scholars, or are foster children can see their counselor for a college application fee waiver
