Definition: is when you compare two things together

One simile in "The Hunger Games" is found on page 54, "Could Gale and I have been eating blackberries only this morning? It seems like a lifetime ago. Like a long dream that deteriorated into a nightmare."


Definition: something that isn't suppose to be taken literal

A metaphor in "The Hunger Games" is when Katniss says "The woods became our savior." this means that the woods provide food for Katniss, and it helped her stay alive when her mom wasn't taking care of Katniss and her little sister prim. It saved them from starvation.


Definition: when you give an object human characteristics

Personification is used when Katniss says "The world begins to bend in alarming ways." After she is stung by a tracker jacker, it makes her hallucinate. The picture to the right shows what she sees when she gets stung by one.


Definition: the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.

Ex: "But the money ran out and we were slowly starving to death."


Definition: Is use of exaggeration.

Ex: "Attendance is mandatory unless you are on deaths door."
