What function does it have in our body?
- Helps keep the body's nerve and blood cells healthy and helps make DNA, the genetic material in all cells.
- Helps prevent a type of anemia called megaloblastic anemia that makes people tired and weak.

- Vitamin B12 deficiency is relatively common, especially among older people.
- Vitamin B12 deficiency is characterized by megaloblastic anemia, fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, and weight loss
- Difficulty maintaining balance, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and soreness of the mouth or tongue
- Large amounts of folic acid can mask the damaging effects of vitamin B12 deficiency
