JCHS #HourOfCode Week Long MARATHON!
The JCHS Library would like to put JCHS on the HOUR OF CODE Map by hosting a week long #HourOfCode Marathon December 7th - 11th, 2015. We have already reserved the Harvard Room, a Chromebook Cart, and the library computers for Hour of Code during this entire week. All you need to do is sign up to participate in the marathon with your classes HERE. We will take care of the rest!
The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics.
Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. See more stats on code.org.

3D Printing Now Available in the JCHS Library!
The cost to print is 20 cents per gram and must be paid in advance.
You can design your own 3D models or use and customize 3D models found on Thingiverse.
Not sure how you could use 3D Printing in the classroom? Here a a great article with some suggestions: http://3dprint.com/27743/3d-printing-benefits-schools/
Additionally, my friend Dr. Anna Wan, Mathematics Education Professor at Columbus State University, says the use of 3D Printers is now taught as part of the pre service teacher program.
Below are some examples of items printed in the JCHS Library.
Winter Around The World Project
Join our new global winter project and add your students stories, songs & illustrations too! https://t.co/cdDfKVBj2p
To celebrate the winter season we are gathering stories, songs, poems, illustrations, and photographs from students all of ages, teachers, and schools around the world. Once we have gathered all of the winter stories in the collaborative Google Slides presentation linked here and below, we will create a digital eBook to publish and share with our friends around the world.
For a little inspiration, you can visit the Cantata Learning book and song Winter...The Coldest Season Of All. They have made the eBook available to all of us in Capstone Interactive, which you can find here and the song is available for all of us on the Cantata Learning website here. You can find the username and password to the eBook below.
You will find the sheet music and lyrics in the eBook. They are attached below, along with a Winter and Snowy Day Symbaloo filled with links to books, resources, play, learning and fun.
We are excited to see and hear the stories, illustrations, poems, and songs that are created by children around the world. Please add your stories, songs and illustrations to the Google Slides presentation by December 1, 2015. We will have the collaborative story ready to share by December 7....just in time for winter and the holidays.
This will be perfect for those places in the world that don't have a snowy winter. Tell us what your seasons are like and learn from all of us about our winters. There will be opportunities for Skype's from winter places around the world and the wonderful people behind this Cantata Learning book too...more to come on this.
What a special way to celebrate the winter and holidays! And we cannot wait to celebrate creativity, reading, learning, and sharing with all of you.
