Simpsonville Baptist Church Annual ChristmasToy Store needs your help!
This year Simpsonville Baptist Church will hold its 6th annual Christmas Toy Store on Saturday, December 14th, 8am-12pm. What started as a simple belief that families would prefer to shop for themselves at Christmas rather than receive a handout has turned into a growing ministry opportunity.
It’s exciting to think that Christmas is two short months away! We are inviting you to partner with us to ensure that families get a needed “Hand Up” to have a Merry Christmas.
The Christmas Store invites these families to purchase gifts for their children ages 1-17 at a minimal cost. Last year we served over 160 families that shopped for 400 plus children. To ensure these families have quality gifts at Christmas, we collect cash donations to purchase new toys or obtain donated new toys. This year the requested item is LEGOS.
If you are interested in donating please drop off your legos to the Youth Service Center no later than DECEMBER 6th. Thanks so much!!
Running Titans: State 2A Meet
On Nov. 2nd the Running Titans traveled to the Kentucky Horse Park to compete in the State AA Cross Country Meet. This is the fifth consecutive year that both the boys’ and girls’ teams made State. Last year the girls finished 17th. Well they turned the tide this year as four Titans finished in the top 100 to help Collins nab an 8th place finish with 274 points. This is the fourth-highest finish in school history (3rd in ’11, 4th in 14, and 5th in ’13).
The Titans were led by seventh grade newcomer Emma Kendall’s eighth place finish. Kendall ran a smart race holding her position the entire race. She finished the rolling 5K course in 19:57 which earned her a spot on the All-State Team. She was followed by junior captain Lilly Vest who had her best State Meet performance ever running a course best (CB 21:08) to finish 33rd. Seventh grader Grace Evans, who was running in only her third varsity 5K race, finished in 65th place to be the third Titan to finish. Sophomore Audrey Bucknam (CB 22:26), and eighth grader Laura Vidourek (CB 23:04) rounded out the scoring for Collins.
In the boys’ race, senior Nolan Thomas led the pace early for the Titans as he cruised through the mile in 5:14 (vs. 5:22 last year). He held on to finish in 23rd place with a course best 17:25 which earned him a place on the All-State Team. Sophomore Gabe Vergara who kicked hard at the end improved upon his freshman finish (47th) with a 17:44 (CB) to place 38th. Sophomores Cole Martens (19:39), Jacob Ison (19:40), and Kyle Acree (19:43) rounded out the Titan scoring. With only two runners in the top 100 the Titans ended up with 480 points to finish 19th.
Assistant Coach Kim Powell said, “I want our athletes to understand that not only in running, but in life, that success takes hard work and commitment. It brings a sense of pride when you see it all come together like it did at State.”
Head Coach George Sanderlin said, “Five of our seven girls got a course best today. It doesn’t get much better than that. Our girls’ team really came around late in the season and proved that they are one of the best teams in the state. Our two captains Lilly and Mary Grace Vest really stepped up and had great races. They kept our athletes focused and inspired. To have two athletes make the All-State team was a fitting end to a very good season.”
Collins team captain Lilly Vest had her best State Meet ever with a 33rd place finish at the Horse Park on Nov. 2nd.
Emma Kendall (L) battles with junior Kaylee Wilson of CAL at the State Meet. Kendall went on to earn All-State honors.
Senior Nolan Thomas earned All-State honors at the State Meet on Nov. 2nd for his 23rd place finish.
Donate Life Kentucky High School Challenge
Did you know that more than 1,000 Kentuckians need a lifesaving transplant? One organ donor can save up to 8 lives and one tissue donor can heal more than 50 lives. Collins HOSA is participating in the 2019 Donate Life Kentucky High School Challenge to promote organ donation, and sign up individuals for the Kentucky Donor Registry. If you are interested in helping us save lives, talk to a HOSA student for more information, or please visit https://registerme.org/campaign/collins.
A Note from IU Southeast:
"Between Monday November 11th & Friday November 15th Kentucky seniors can have their application fee waived using waiver code “SECOLAPP”. Our application fee is normally $35, so this is a great opportunity for students that might be concerned about their acceptance to a university. Students are not required to submit transcripts or test scores with their application, however we will not be able to admit them without these documents. Our admissions standard are straightforward: 2.0 unweighted GPA and students must take the ACT/SAT. Please note that we do not have a minimum score requirement for ACT/SAT, we only require the student to submit their scores."

Simpsonville Baptist Church 6th Annual Toy Store
By invitation only-contact the Youth Service Center
Mission: offer families a dignified shopping experience where we offer a hand up, not a handout.
Target Population: families that make "too much" money to qualify for assistance, but still struggle financially and could use a hand up. Single parents, grandparents raising grandkids, etc.
How does our store work? Families are given the opportunity to “shop” in our store filled with NEW toys that have been donated from the community. The toys are discounted to nearly one fifth of their retail value, giving parents/guardians the opportunity to shop for their own children at a discounted price. Our store does not make a profit, all of the money that is collected goes back into the store to buy more toys.
