Hey Lincoln!

We know that things have not been easy for a lot of us during these times. We hope that we can support you somehow and will send weekly info for you, whether through a newsletter or a simple email. Some might be feeling stressed out, sad, etc. and we hope to help at least a little bit by sending activities, videos, and more. We are here for you! :)

Please reach out to your counselor or social worker if you have one already. If you feel you need to talk to someone, let your teacher know, reach out to a social worker or one of us. You are not alone!

What is YC?

We are a community agency and we provide counseling services at Lincoln Middle School. We also have other counselors at Morton West, Morton East and the Freshman Centers. We provide individual and group counseling free of charge to your families.

"In The Moment"- Group open to all

This is a Mindfulness group called "In The Moment". If you are feeling stressed out, anxious or just want to learn more about it and some tips that can help you. Join us on Thursdays after school at 2:45pm. We will last no more than 30 minutes but we hope that you will take something with you each time. Hope to see many of you there. :)

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is simply… noticing what is happening right now.

Mindfulness is taking notice of how your body feels and what you see, smell and taste. Maybe you even feel emotions in your body, perhaps through a tightness somewhere, or a good sensation.

Mindfulness is also noticing what your mind is doing.

How can it help you?

It can help you calm your body and mind. It will lower your stress and make your mental health a lot better over time. It can help you stay focused in class or wherever needed.

Try Mindful Listening

1. HALT….. Halt whatever you are doing and offer your full attention.

2. ENJOY ….. Enjoy a breath as you choose to receive whatever is being communicated to you—wanted or unwanted.

3. ASK ….. Ask yourself if you really know what they mean and if you don’t, ask for clarification. Instead of making assumptions, bring openness and curiosity to the interaction. You might be surprised at what you discover.

4. REFLECT….. Reflect back to them what you heard. This tells them that you were really listening.
