Party Time!
The students have earned another party and it's coming up this week! Our room moms are putting together a fun "Winter Olympic" themed party. The party will be Thursday, Dec. 17th @ 9:15 - 10:45.
If you'd like to volunteer, check on our class Shutterfly account to see if there's still a spot available to sign-up for.
Early Release
Dec. 18th is an Early Release Day. We will be getting out @12:55 and there will be no lunches.
Winter Break: Dec. 19 - Jan. 12
Winter Break is coming soon! Students will be off Dec. 19 - Jan. 12. The kids are looking forward to this well-deserved break.
I will be sending home a packet of optional work for students. It is not required, but will be an optional way for students to keep busy and stay sharp over the break.
Included in the packet will be some cursive practice pages! We won't be going over cursive until later in the year, but this would be a good time for students to start teaching themselves if they are motivated to do so.
Multiplication Questions
Many parents asked at conferences if their child should start memorizing their multiplication facts. I explained that we want to make sure that students need to make sure they have a solid conceptual understanding of multiplication before they jump into memorizing facts. We just finished our first unit of multiplication and division and now would be the perfect time to start! Students should start by memorizing their 2, 5, and 10s.
I have linked here some skip counting songs the kids can practice. Also, linked here is the 3rd grade page with tons of multiplication practice and resources.

3 Week Edition
It has been a crazy jam-packed few weeks, which has delayed our normal newsletter. Here's a peek into what we've been up to for the past few weeks!
Garden Week
A BIG thank you for Lyla's dad, Mr. A, for leading us through Garden week right before Thanksgiving break! The kids learned all about planting, composting, weeding, and harvesting. They also learned about the fruit they planted: tomatoes. Did you know that there are more than 10,000 varieties of tomatoes? Wow! All the kids had a fabulous time working in, learning about, bringing their buddies to, and even writing in the garden during the week.
Field Trip
Our first week back from break we went on our first field trip of the year. It was so fun! We walked around the Batiquitos Lagoon, learning about its ecosystem and the Native Californians who used to live in the area. A big thank you to all our volunteers that came on the trip.
Military Cards
This week the kids took some time out of their studying to make some cards for military personnel that are stationed overseas during the holidays. They made some WONDERFUL cards and they showed genuine gratitude and admiration for our military.
Window Art
The fabulous Mrs. Golden came in again to help the students build some window art for a contest. They made mosaic letters to create a positive message for everyone who passes by the class.
3rd Grade is Hard Work!
It hasn't been all fun and games, the kids have been working VERY hard the past 3 weeks, especially in reading, writing, and math. We are in the middle of taking a bunch of unit assessments. I am so impressed with how much effort every student has put into their work. The upcoming break is well-deserved!
Thank you!
