MES Honors Veterans on Tuesday, November 11!
Fifth Grade Students Present Music Program on Veterans Day! All Area Vets Invited
Milan Elementary School is proud to honor veterans from all branches of the armed services at a very special music program on the morning of Veterans' Day, Tuesday, November 11. There will be two performances, 8:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. Although veterans and auxiliary organization members are all welcome to attend either or both performances, the Milan American Legion will be actively participating in the 8:30 a.m. show. All attending veterans will be recognized during both programs that will feature patriotic songs and music performed by our fifth grade students.
Fifth Grade parents please note that this will be your child's public music performance for the year. You are also invited to attend either performance.
September Students of the Month Named "Good Listeners"
Established in 1996 as a collaboration between our school and the Milan American Legion Post, the Student of the Month Program has been a big success at Milan Elementary.
For those of you who might be unfamiliar with this program, it gives recognition to students who put forth outstanding effort in targeted areas and encourages others to follow their good example. Students receive a certificate prepared for them by Legion Auxiliary Member Thelma Reese and presented to them by Post Commander Ron Mills. They also have a group photo taken which appears in the local newspaper. Each month there is a different theme.
September’s theme was “Good Listener” and the following students were chosen as those who always listened attentively and politely and so were able to follow directions as given: Hunter Louden, Jaden Withered, Maddie Kohrman, Micah Norman, Sophia Lewis, Sydney Batten, Hunter Stevens, Sophia Cobble, Emersen King, Jackson Fugate, Garrett Cull, Chloe Hunter, Sarah Lillis, Margot Keller, Liam Horton, Haley McKeown, Brady Werner, Elizabeth Williams, Emily Davidson, Trent Burdette, and Hunter Merida.
We would like to express our deep appreciation to the Milan Legion for their continued support of this program and offer a special thanks to Mrs. Reese who has been with the program since it began and Mr. Ron Mills who visits each month to present the certificates to the students.
October Students of the Month are "Trustworthy"
The Milan Elementary Student of the Month theme for October was “Trustworthy” and teachers were watching for students who could be counted on to make good choices and do the right thing. Chosen as outstanding examples of this very desirable character trait were:

Congratulations to: Nevaeh Taylor ($100); Logan Bruns and Alex Wenger ($75); Violet Thome, Kayla Walke, Marissa Farrell, Jeremy Robbins, Ezekiel Gilday and Daniel Whaley ($50); and Holden Acra, Chloe Andrew, Kyndell Furnish, Landon Weaver, Sydney Batton and Amelia Starkey ($25). A big MES THANK YOU! goes out to all these students and their families for all their hard work to help our school!
Finally, the names of all students who participated were entered into a drawing for a Kindle Fire HD. That lucky winner was Cole McClellan!
Milan Elementary students and staff are very grateful to the PTO for all their hard work in support of our school. Proceeds from the fundraiser are used to buy educational materials and equipment for the school and playground and to help pay for creative arts programs and admission to school field trips. They also provide quarterly honor roll certificates and many valuable items that the school would be unable to provide for the students.
