Characters Dressed as Other Characters
4th Graders were challenged to find traits that different characters had in common - and use that info in a fun creative way by having them dress up as one another! Check out their creativity below!
By: Clara Mae, MIS
Belle (Beauty and the Beats) dressed as Hermione (Harry Potter) because they both love books!
By Ryan, MIS
Mario dressed as Superman because they are both from different worlds and they fight to protect others.
By: Natalie, MIS
Christopher Robin (Winne the Pooh) dressed as Mowgli (Jungle Book) because they both have animal friends that talk.
By: Phoebe, MIS
Cat Kid and Molly (from Little Pete) because they are both mischievous and silly.
By: Lacy, EMIS
The Grinch dressed as Jack Skeleton because they both try to steal Christmas but then find the real meaning of Christmas in the end.
By: Sadie, EMIS
Tiny T-Rex dressed as Minnie Mouse because they are both sweet and kind.
By: Sophia, EMIS
Spookly the Square Pumpkin dressed as the Grinch because they both were outsiders and then were reunited with the world.
By: Connor, EMIS

By: Emery, EMIS

Math
5th Grade
ELA - MIS/EMIS
As mentioned in a previous newsletter, students researched Greek and Latin roots and used their new knowledge to create their own characters, which we called Greekymons. As a follow up, students were asked to write a story (some wrote a whole book!) about their Greekymon battling or going on an adventure with another student's Greekymon. The link below is a book where I have compiled many of those stories. Their creativity is apparent!! If your child's Greekymon is not included, you can remind them that they need to submit in canvas so that I have access to include it!
MATH - MIS/EMIS
5th Graders at EMIS and MIS are working on both order of operations AND volume. Both groups have participated in escape rooms to practice their skills. In addition, at MIS students recently coded BOTS to walk their way through an order of operations maze. At EMIS students are diligently working on a hands on volume project, where they design and build their own city! Over the next few weeks they will switch, so students at both schools will do both activities!

Highlights from Oct 16 Parent Meeting
Thank you to those who were able to attend our recent meeting! I appreciate your feedback and have passed along the pieces that needed to go to others (club choice info for parents, DI/AIG in 4th grade, middle school honors). If you were unable to attend, here is the presentation...which won't give you the full story, but will at least give you an idea. If you have questions, please let me know!
Thoughts on Parenting an AIG Student....
from the book Ada Twist, Scientist by Andrea Beaty.
Perhaps you can relate to having a child with a passion - and doing whatever it takes to fuel that passion!

Poetry Contest
Does your child enjoy writing poetry? I have had students participate in the Creative Classroom Poetic Power contest for many years now. I like it because every student is NOT automatically selected to be published (making it more of an honor to be chosen) BUT I've had enough students be published over the years to know that it's worth the time to enter!
Science Fun!
Does your child enjoy science? Check out some of these neat experiments from Discovery Place!! Maybe you can make some spooky potions at home!
