Monday Memo

Great Things!
We made it through our first full week! You all are rocking it! Kids are looking good in the hallways: walking feet, voices have been quiet, they are keeping their feet on the lines. Everyone has worked hard to practice and teach these routines!
There were so many July and August birthday friends this past week! The kids had a fun time getting their picture taken and eating birthday cookies!
We added a student almost every day last week! Spots are filling up, and our new friends are diving right in to the routine.
Challenge: Noticing: This week practice noticing helpful acts throughout the day. Noticing helps us to be present, and build relationships with students-while encouraging helpfulness. Start with "you" then describe what the child did that was helpful, next, tell them how it helped another student or the classroom, and try ending with "that was helpful". For example "You scooted over, so that your friend could join us on the carpet for circle time, that was helpful!"

Nuts-n-Bolts:
*If you already have a website- please go ahead and update your page with current year information. (new staff, I will be sending an email out for us to meet to get yours up and running)
*Please turn in your home visit schedules to Marian and I in the front office, and remember to sign out/in when you leave/return
*When you are not using your projectors-please turn them off. Per IT: the bulb life is based on hours, and they are very expensive to replace.
*Please remember to keep your positive contact log with parents. Make sure every student's parent/guardian has been contacted with a positive phone call or face to face in these first few weeks.
*The Starfall account has been renewed.
*Reminder: If you see a car pull in the front circle drive during arrival/dismissal- please step out and politely ask them to move over to the parking lot. Any staff member can do this if you see it; don't feel like you need to wait on me. =)
*If you are interested in getting certified/trained in our district restraint training (Safe Crisis Management-SCM) please let me know, and I will get you added to the list. I am not sure yet when that will be- but it is typically two Saturdays.
*Laminator rules: Please do not laminate on your own. There is a drop box in the workroom near the laminator- you can place your items inside with your name and our Wednesday laminator crew will laminate and get them back to you. (Thank you Gayle and Lisa!) It is important that you follow this schedule--I have left the building at 5:30/6:00 p.m. on several occasions in the past couple of weeks and found it left on-and it get's quite hot. Only Wednesdays for lamination please.
*When using the radio for communications- please do not use students' whole names. We would like you to use first name, last initial only.
*Our "Arnie and His School Tools" book has come in! If you would like to borrow it to teach the appropriate use of fidgets in your classroom- please let me know and I will get it to you.
*Art in the Office for September: Heather
*September book shelving duty: Gayle
