Biography of Billy Joel.

Billy Joel is a famous songwriter who has been making music that many people have listened to. He was born on May 9, 1949. He is currently age 66, and is married to Alexis Roderick, who is 33. Billy Joel has 2 children; Alexa Ray Joel, and Della Rose Joel. Joel went to Hicksville High School, and started studying piano before he attended. In 1963, Billy Joel joined his first band, called, "The Echoes." Later on, they changed to The Lost Souls. Four years later, he joined the Hassles. Three years later, he created a heavy metal band with the drummer of the Hassles, called Attila.


After that, he started his official music career. he went into hiding in 1971, going under the name of Bill Martin. The next year, he put his song, Captain Jack on the radio. Although he tried to hide, Columbia Records tracked him down, and gave him a recording contract. He records the album Piano Man in Columbia Records, and it became his first top 20 single, and first gold album. His career only bloomed, because Clive Davis offered him the contract in Columbia Records.


Billy Joel has won over 50 awards. His most important reward(s), would be Handi Cap( Humanitarian Award), and the Honorary Doctorate from the Berklee College of Music. Some facts about Billy Joel, is that when he was 21, he attempted suicide by drinking furniture polish. Steve WInwood is his favorite pianist.
