LUNCH DELIVERIES
Due to an increasing number of students calling home to have lunch delivered, we must restrict student use of the office phone to urgent situations only. We will no longer allow students to call home to ask for lunch to be delivered. With almost 1,000 kids, we simply can’t function safely when inundated with these kinds of disruptions. Thank you for your understanding as we try to keep Bidwell a safe and orderly place for all kids.
CHICO IDOL CONGRATS
Congratulations to two of our singing Pioneers, Ava Bomann and Kendall Stafford! Ava took first place in the Chico Idol competition in the Junior Division, and Kendall took second. Way to go, girls!
PITCHING PENNIES IN MATH
Mrs. Peasha's math class played penny golf and made box plots from the data. Who said learning can't be fun?
BOOK DONATIONS NEEDED
SNACKS FOR TESTING
Dear Parents and Guardians,
During the week of April 24th - 28th, your student will be participating in the state’s English Language Arts test during their English class. As we all know, kids struggle to focus when they are hungry. To help reduce this distraction, we would like to offer healthy snacks to our 3rd and 6th period classes (we are hoping breakfast will fuel periods 1 and 2 while lunch covers periods 4 and 5).
If you are interested in donating a healthy snack for your student’s English to share, please feel free to send this donation with your student. This can be delivered ahead of time and stored in the English class.
Healthy Snacks to Consider:
-
granola bars
-
goldfish crackers/crackers
-
pretzels
-
fruit
-
veggies
-
string cheese
Please no snacks with nuts in order to avoid possible allergies as well as snacks where sugar is the first ingredient!
Thank you for your time and support,
The Bidwell English Department
BUILDING HISTORY
Students in Mrs. Jimmeron's 6th grade history classes took part in a Greek temple building contest. Students were working in groups run under various types of government in ancient Greece, too. Nothing like a hands-on history lesson!
YEARBOOKS ARE GOING FAST!
GOLD NUGGET PRIZES
We have quite a few UNCLAIMED Gold Nugget raffle Gift Cards! The following students can come claim their $5 Gift card in Room 406A during their lunch break: Braydin Savangsy, Allison Vang, Camille Rowe, Wyatt Collins, Elise Kerr, Jasmine Sager, Tatiana Sepulveda, Andy Yang and Daniel Etter.
BAND PLAYS CUSD ARTS FOR ALL
Both Bidwell's concert and jazz bands played at last Thursday night's Arts for All at the Farmer's Market.
ATTENTION 7TH GRADERS:
8TH GRADE STUDENTS INTERESTED IN ATHLETICS
Are you interested in playing sports next year in high school? Just a reminder, your grades this semester affect your athletic eligibility for both fall and winter sports next year in high school. You must pass 4 classes this semester AND have a 2.00 grade point average (C average) by June to be cleared to participate in sports at whatever high school you plan on attending (some schools allow a onetime waiver if you have at least a 1.50 GPA). Work on your grades now!
If you have questions you can call Randy Gilzean at (530)891-3050 ext. 227 after 1:00pm. Please leave a message if there is no answer.
SEXUAL HEALTH & HIV/AIDS PREVENTION UNIT
The comprehensive sexual health and HIV/AIDS prevention unit will be delivered in all 7th grade science classes in May. Parents and guardians are invited to attend the information night on Wednesday May 2nd at 6pm at Chico Jr High in room 105 to review the curriculum.
On Friday, May 4th a consultant from the approved Positively Speaking program will present medically accurate information on HIV/AIDS prevention. Parents and guardians have the right to excuse their student from the unit by submitting a written request to the principal or science teacher. The goal of the health education program is to encourage students to make responsible decisions in the future.
PIONEERS SHOOT FOR THE STARS
Mrs. Hansen’s 8th English classes have been doing an astronomy speech unit in conjunction with the sciences classes. This STEAM unit focuses on John F. Kennedy’s speech encouraging Americans to get behind putting a man on the moon. The students’ favorite line from the speech was, “We choose to go to the moon... not because it is easy, but because it is hard.” Additionally students compared his speech to Reagan’s speech after the Challenger disaster. Students made posters brainstorming impressive accomplishments and goals for the future. Classes discussed characteristics of good public speakers while analyzing these speeches. Pioneers had a great time connecting science with English in this integrated STEAM unit.
LIBRARY CLOSURE
PE MAKEUPS
NEW LIFE TO OLD PHONES
Do you have an old smartphone laying around that you no longer need? Bidwell’s history department could put it to great use! We are excited to have the opportunity to use Google Cardboard devices in the classroom, which will allow students to take virtual reality fieldtrips and explore the places we learn about. These devices require a smartphone connected to Wi-Fi, and don’t worry! Your information can be cleared off of your phone!
If you have a phone or two that you could donate, bring them to the office or talk to Mrs. Molchen at cmolchen@chicousd.org. Thank you for making history come to life for our students!
