Water is differently distributed in the great state of California. Because of the great drought water is a great problem in California. The discussion of and how to cure this drought is discussed greatly. The news and the media attention from the long devistation is an utter horror for Mother Nature.

The Numbers

Water usage in California is very high but, we are currently experiencing a very great drought. In 2005, Americans used 410,000 million gallons per day. Also in 2005, California used 20,000 to 46,000 million gallons of water. One every day action,taking a shower, uses 1-2.5 gallons a minute. Another action is flushing a toilet, you use 1.6 gallons of water. Most of the water is used in flushing the toilet.

The average use of an American is about 100 gallons of water per day, an average family of four uses about 400 gallons of water per day. America uses the most amount of water in the world. Earth's population of water, saltwater to fresh water is a ratio of 38.6:1 and another 1% of the 2.5% of fresh water is frozen in glaciers. Most of our water comes from nearby steams, rivers, or mountain. Less than one percent of Earth's can be consumed by human.

Why Should We?

You might feel comfortable in your home and not see the worry of the lack of water in California. But, the common reality is that California suffers from a severe four year drought. Many crops are not growing and the small streams and rivers are either gone or barley enough water in them. We must save water these are some ways to do that.

How to Conserve Water in a Drought

Some ways you can save water:

  • You can turn off the water while you brush your teeth
  • Check you pipes and sprinklers and if they are working properly
  • You should start a compost pile saves some water from the organic matter it contain
  • Start washing the dishes and not the dish washer
  • Water your plants in shorter periods of time if water rolls off your lawn
