Specials for the Week of November 17th- 21st
P.E. will be on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday next week. Please wear tennis shoes. Please return your library book on Monday so you can check out another one.
Jonah Simmons Smith is our Star of the Week. We loved seeing all of his pictures and loved his book, "Green Eggs and Ham".
We have been working hard preparing for our Thanksgiving skit. We hope you can attend on Friday, November 21st at 8:45 a.m. Thank you to all who volunteered to make and/or send in items for our Thanksgiving feast. You can send in non- perishable items at anytime. THANK YOU to our parents who came in to help us paint our Thanksgiving shirts!!!
LANGUAGE ARTS
We are working on:
- Building our sight word vocabulary
- Recognizing upper and lowercase letters, learning letter sounds, and recognizing color words
- Working on recognizing rhyming words
- Counting, blending, and segmenting syllables
- Features of non-fiction text
- Finding information in non-fiction text
- Creating pictures and phonetically spelling words to tell a story- focusing on setting, characters, and at least 3 details about our story
- Working in guided reading groups- please have your child read the book to you and return it the next day
- Working independently in Daily Five centers to become better readers, writers, and spellers

Math
We are working on:
- BUILDing Mathmeticians during our Math Workshop
Using math manipulatives to learn about numbers
Using math tools- number line and tens frame to build numbers
Daily calendar math
- Counting by tens, fives, and ones to 100
- Exploring coins; penny, nickel, dime, and quarter
- Writing numbers and counting sets to 20
- 1-1 correspondence
- Comparing sets- more, less, same
- Using "number talks" to explain our math thinking
- Using the "Notice and Wonder" strategy to help us with problem solving
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES
We are working on:
- Comparing life long ago and today.
- Comparing Pilgrims and Indians
- Learning about the First Thanksgiving.
Craig Character Award
Blake Douglas earned the Craig Character award for showing responsibility! He will be recognized on the Craig news show next week.
REMINDERS
- Please remember that all Original Works Art fund-raiser packets are due this Monday, November 17, 2014. Thanks for all of your participation so far! Lisa Hiers
- It's time for Pie in the Eye for the Craig Relay for Life team! It begins next week- Monday, November 17th- 21st! Which teacher and principals will get a pie in the eye this year?? Remembeer it's a dollar a vote (no coins, please). Join in the fun for a great cause!
- Mark your calendars for Friday, November 21st at 8:45 a.m. Kindergarteners will perform a skit about the First Thanksgiving and then have a feast!
- Students have an opportunity to order from Scholastic books. Every student has a coupon attached to their order. Books make great presents and for dollar spent, we earn books to build our classroom library. You may order online or send in a paper copy with the check made out to "Scholastic Books". Orders are DUE: November 21st.
- Our Thanksgiving Holiday will be from November 24th - November 28th. School will resume on Monday, December 1st.
